If you haven’t been to Bucci’s in Balham, then go NOW! Incredibly friendly staff and ridiculously affordable Italian food, you simply cannot compare.
Such a mixed bag! We were a big group (about 16) and the place was busy, but still, we’d been there an hour and 20 before our starters came, and mains we about 2 hours in. Saying that, the food is very authentic (I got back from touring Italy a couple of days before and the menu was spot on) with a great selection. I sampled the tricolore salad to start and also nibbled on the garlic mushrooms (needs bread with it) and the antipasti platter and they were all fab. Mains are also extremely good but again, a couple of dishes arrived after everyone else was pretty much finished. The cannaloni though, oh my god – herby, tender minced beef, spinach, perfect pasta and bechamel that wasn’t too rich. Obligatory bubbly mozzarella on top. A great dish, loved it. The pizzas are also good, gooey centres and chewy crusts. The best bit was the crazy birthday show! All the kitchen staff come out and they have horns, tambourines etc and sing the loudest, longest, most Italian happy birthday I’ve ever heard, it was fantastic. It’s worth going just for that, tell them it’s your birthday. Unfortunately my phone died so no pics but imagine good, authentic, hearty Italian grub, bags of personality from the owner (less so from the staff) and an overall very good night and you’re there. feedingfranklin.co.uk
Not great at all
Shame about the service. Was here for the fist time last night, 2 friends were taking me & Partner out for a meal as a thank you for collecting them from the airport, they asked us to choose a restaurant, ..We had passed Bucci a few times & it was always busy so we decided to go there,we ordered & every thing was fine till only 3 starters arrived, we thought the 4th would follow,….. halfway through our starters the 4th still hadn’t arrived so we asked a waitress who said it would be coming soon, it finally arrived as the three of us had nearly finished ours,…. bad start…We sat for an hour waiting for the main course, one of our friends went up to the bar to ask when it would arrive,…. they didn’t know…. we decided to give it another ten minutes then we’d leave….Just as we were about to get our jackets the main course arrived …no apology or explanation,… the food was excellent but the delay had spoilt the evening, If someone had come to the table & explained there would be a delay it would have been ok but just to leave us sitting wondering was a bit out of order, needless to say we wont be back….
Very good meal, excellent service and definitely recommended.
Bad Bad Bad Avoid. Have to say after reading the comments was looking forward to the evening ! we went in a group of 10 and were left to wait 20 minutes before a waitress came over to take the drinks order. after another 20 minutes we got a waiter who took our orders , most our orders were correct but the portions were like what I used to get for school dinners and the quality was poor to say the least, pasta had been over cooked, my friends steak was dry, vegetables re-heated fish seemed off and not fresh. When we told the waiter he call over the manager who looked lost as if it was not possible and just said sorry sorry but did not offer to make the effort to change the dishes( maybe as he would of had to change all of them). After that we decided to get the bill and go and the manager gave us a limoncello each for free as a token which funnily enough he does anyway and the bill said it all the quality was crap and nothing off the bill, so if you complain he says sorry and looks like he doesnt understand English!!! Poor Poor Poor Avoid!!!!
