Worst steak ever. Grossest cut of sirloin ever. Chewy as old boot leather. Cooked properly by the chef but it needed to be cooked more to try and make it edible. Dont waste your money.
Lovely birthday dinner. My boyfriend took me out to Cattle Grid on my birthday for a steak dinner. We have tried lots of places and steaks before, and I have to say, we had an amazing meal. The service was attentive, but not intrusive, we could still enjoy our privacy during our meal, yet: we felt looked after. And the steak, the main part: it was AMAZING! One of the best (if not the bestest) we have ever had! So thank you for making my birthday evening great!
Very dissapointed! What terrible service, 9/12 of our orders were completely wrong. We waited over an hour for 3 meals and they were never complete. Worst restaurant we have ever eaten in. Would not reccomend or visit again.
What can I say? Being a local in Balham for 14 years now, I’ve seen restaurants come and go. Although The Cattle Grid started off ok and was very reasonably priced, I was totally shock to Se the price of the Ribs go up from 14.95 one month to 15.95 this month. These started off at 11.95 18 months ago. Being in the trade and knowing how much there are at cost, it discusts me on how much TCG are charging. And on top of that, they’re only edible from Thursday-Saturday. Maybe TCG should seriously think about this issue and rectify it! As all the locals that have spoken to me and myself included, will not be going there again! Keep your pretentions to central London and not the lovely local place of Balham. I could say more about the over priced and lack luster quality of the food, but I haven’t got the time nore care about this place as much as I used too. Make your own minds up, but go to the cash point first, it’s going to cost you. Failing that go to The Exhibit Diner around the corner and get the same ribs for 13.95 and better service.
We went to cattle grid Balham last week and we had such a good time! The service is just right- friendly, not uptight and easy to get along with. The food- oh my the ribs! Best ribs ever! This all makes for a great atmosphere. The only issue was it got a bit cold after we’d eaten, but the staff said the heater was broken so if that’s fixed- perfect! Nice for couples and groups. I went at night and must try the day. Go!
Completely Awful. Shocking service, no interest in their customers and food is also not good. Been there twice, ribs were sent back twice in one sitting for being cold, and they were put in the microwave. Next time i paid 20 for a steak, it was worse than most supermarket steaks i cook myself. When they were told they didnt apologise or even seem to care. Awful place, and way overpriced!!!
Filthy, filthy, filthy. How disgusting a meal we just had at balham cattle grid!?! Leaving incompetent and just wrong service aside and forgetting about how just not good our food was (it’s a burger–how is that so hard?), the restaurant uses sainsbury’s baby wipes (fragrance free and with added aloe Vera for soft bums) to clean the tables. Forget about killing germs and bacteria I guess. Or perhaps that’s what 60 quid buys these days…a whole lot of filth on your table. Shame on them.
