Worst Thai take-away ever !. We decided to order and collect a take away as we fancied Thai and there are not that many options in Balham for Thai. This was honestly the worst food I have eaten in years! The steamed dumplings were frankly inedible as they left a strange after taste in your mouth and were really chewy. The egg noodle soup with chicken was a pot noodle but not as nice (and I have not eaten one of those since my student days 20 years ago)The only dish we managed to eat was the coconut rice and the red curry which was basically just sauce with no substance. What a waste of 30 and we are still hungry!I have never written a review before so do not make it a habit of complaining plus I love Balham and want to support local places but I hope the Firefly will take heed and SERIOUSLY improve their offering!!
Lively pub/bar that serves Thai food, we visited quite late on a Saturday night so most people were just there for the bar at that time so we were just expecting the usual pub grub. The food was equal if not better than most Thai restaurants I’ve been to. Quite a good choice and every dish we had was most enjoyable.Service was very friendly and casual making us feel very welcome.
Great food and drinks. Had dinner and drinks here last night (Saturday night) and was really impressed. We sat towards the back in restaurant area and had starters and main courses from the Thai menu. The food arrived fairly quickly, was piping hot and tasted great. Much better than a lot of proper Thai restaurants that I’ve been too. The bar area at the front was really busy, groups of groups of people drinking so the atmosphere was great. We had drinks here after our food (we could have stayed at our table in the restaurant no problem but managed to get a table in the bar). I had a really nice mojito, some places can make them taste awful but this one was good! My boyfriend had a pint of Ale (they’ve just started selling Ale on tap the barman said) which he loves. A place where I can have a cocktail and he can have a pint of Ale is perfect!! All in all a really good night and I’ll definitely be returning. Oh and it’s right by the tube too so easy to find and get home again!
Great Thai food. Got recommended about the food and went last night – excellent quality and reasonably priced. Definitely worth a visit- nice atmosphere and decent service
Fantastic Thai food at a good price! Best Thai in the area, obviously not byob like the nearby Paddyfeild. However, food is considerably better and cheaper.
Disasterous. After a long and arduous search for a restaurant in which to celebrate my father’s 86th birthday, my brother and I settled on ‘Firefly’ in Balham. Initially we were welcomed however the waitresses soon found making cocktails and pulling pints of beer for others more interesting. I had to go to the bar to ask them to take our order. We had soup (good) and then waited and waited for our main courses. A waitress produced 3 plates of food but it turned out they were someone else’s order. She took them away. We then heard her tell the chefs that she had lost our order. We were so very disappointed, so left. We received very little sympathy from this restaurant. In stark contrast to the restaurant formerly known as Ferrari’s at the top of Ritherdon Road who had been fabulous to Dad on his 80th birthday. Firefly should be ashamed of the ‘service’ we received today.
Disappointing. Tonight I visited the Firefly for pre and post dinner drinks – and he difference was amazing.Pre dinner I was served by a lady and given a nice if over priced glass of mulled wine. Sat with friends and was treated well by the staff. After dinner. a different story – an antagonistic barman who was obviously tired took out his bad day on us and after we had bought 2-3 rounds decided it was a must to have the door open while collecting in the outside tables. On a night it had been snowing. We had been finishing our drinks and he ruined our evening by being rude, and agressive with my friends. Was very disappointed in the difference in service and the manager’s lack of attention when we raised this with her.I would recommend walking a bit further into Balham and going to one of the much friendlier bars in the town centre high street.
