Wonderful Venue for my Birthday Dinner. I chose Gazette (Balham) to host my 50th Birthday Dinner. I had around 45 guests but had never organised anything like this before.Gazette’s managers took all the stress away right from the very start of the preparations. I was given help and advice to organise the seating plan and was given extras such as a personalised menu and name cards which were all prepared by Gazette beforehand for no charge at all. Plus I must have changed the seating plan numerous times!Given that some of my friends were on a budget, I opted for the most economical 3 course meal which was cooked perfectly with a lovely presentation and the food tasted just as good French cuisine should do – lovely. The service was perfect in that the waiters and waitresses were friendly and curteous and treated myself and my guests with the utmost respect and consideration. The ambience was just right and I really felt that Gazette made every effort to make my Birthday celebrations very special to the point of being magical.Hence, I thoroughly recommend Gazette for great ambience quality of food, quality of service and exceptional value for money. Plus the bar was open until 2am!
Terrible restaurant experience. My family and myself went to Gazette restaurant in Balham, South London for an evening meal. The restaurant itself seemed the ideal place for a relaxing bistro dinner. However this was far from what it was.staff seemed quite stressed and had no time to be dealing with tables properly. When the food came (over an hour waiting) not only were we all hungry but it was cold. Myself being a vegetarian it was difficult to find a suitable choice on the menu and found I was very sick due to the kitchen using meat stock (one can assume) in vegetarian dishes. All in all an experience we won’t forget but not for the right reasons, needless to say we won’t be back again.
Very disappointing…… Tr…. Very disappointing……Tried gazette for the first time this morning but unfortunately left very disappointed.Upon being shown to a table, menus took ages to arrive, while being given the menus we asked for some water which never came. After going to the bar and asking again, a couple of minutes later they finally came.We ordered eggs benedict and a croque Monsieur and 2 milkshakes. the food arrived roughly 2 minutes after we ordered. Was slightly too quick we thought. Whilst the Monsieur was ok, the eggs benedict were hard and also the whole thing was cold, so I asked for another one. It came after 5 minutes but while it still wasn’t hot, I was too hungry to wait again. The milkshakes finally arrived halfway through our meals and I’m afraid to say also very disappointing. Watery with chunks of ice and no chocolate taste. How hard is it to get a milkshake right??!Overall the bill was 20 with the service taken off, so we left after paying to never return. Much better places in balham to eat than gazette I’m afraid.
As bad as they say. Have to agree with other reviews here. We were here on a quiet night, with only 4 or 5 tables occupied. However, they still managed to serve poor quality food cold and poorly prepared. The waiting staff were arrogant, bordering on surly and overcharged us at the end of the meal, then argued when we pointed out the error. AVOID.
Very nice atmosphere – traditionally rustic, good fresh food, polite & friendly authentic and most importantly well informed staff. However, can be waiting a long time (depending on where seated) and food & drink can vary (depending on whose made it). Although this can add to the experience the flavours often remain consistent.
Not a fan. Overpriced for the meals you actually get, and the staff is dismissive. Lunch is ok though the baguettes are quite nice.
Disgusting duck confit. I thought duck confit was a classic French dish, not so at the GazetteThe duck leg had not been marinated or baked in delicious goose fat and did not fall off of the bone instead it was probably pan fried resulting as a disgusting tough and inedible portion of duckWhen this was pointed out to the waiter it was taken away and the same piece of meat returned presumably after giving it a few more minutes in the pan making it even more unappetising.
