The Regent is the ideal pub to start a Friday/Saturday night, it hosts a lively atmosphere in a spacious bar which serves a selection of quality pub grub. Weekend punters are rewarded with live bands and musical bingo along with the resident DJ every other Saturday. During the day it shows live sports, everything from cricket to super Sunday football – indeed your day can go past very quickly.Good food, great music and reasonably priced drinks are all the ingredients for a British pub with a class interior.

I’ve found that in London it’s often difficult to find a decent gastro-pub that also shows sport. The Regent is one of these. Divided into two halves there is ample room for football fans and families alike. The main entrance opens into a wide seating area with chairs and soft seating in equal measure, and atmospheric lighting in the evenings. Then past the bar are some booths alongside some more bar-like, stool-high tables in front of a large screen used for showing sports. Another large screen also drops down in the front half for big matches which makes the atmosphere very lively. The food is good too, with above standard pub-fare that would suit most tastes. I recommend the sausage and mash and share platters are available – ideal for watching sport with.In general, one of several decent pubs in Balham. The only draw back in this category is that The Regent doesn’t have a nice beer garden like the others. londoncurryblog.com
