I really enjoy Cantonese food and myself and a group of friends were in Bayswater recently and we decided to try Kam Tong. The menu was full of classic Cantonese dishes. The wok fried noodle dishes we ordered were generally pretty decent and so were the soup based noodle bowls, but we were disappointed with the quality of the seafood items we ordered. We ordered prawns with caramelized cashews and some of the prawns were not cleaned well and still had their black veins. In addition, we found the dish way too sweet for our liking. Quality wise Kam Tong was not near as good as other restaurants nearby, such as Royal China and Goldmine. However what really let this restaurant down was the awful service we received. It took 20 minutes to take our order and what seemed like ages later when the food finally did arrive our starters and mains were served together. When we tried to complain to the manager he was extremely rude and unhelpful. I would not recommend.

We found the restaurant a scary place, with a violent manager who wanted to beat us up before throwing us out from the restaurant. It was all because they were very unwelcoming when we were waiting to be be seated and I said to the manager who took us to our table that I hoped the service would be friendlier. It was me and my husband who were really shaken up when left the place. I had never seen anything like it and won’t ever go back.

Tried a variety of dimsums – well it was ok – nothing bad to write about – but nothing wow either. The Head Server could definitely smile a bit more because the service seems very tired …

Kam Tong is a snappy restaurant with swift service and a buzzy atmosphere. Their dim sum was very good with generous portions. It’s great value too: chicken sausage rice and two cheung fun came in at under 12 which was impressive. I’ll definitely go back

Top Marks!. Kam Tong has been here forever but I heard it had recently been taken over by new management this year so was curious to see how it fared in comparison to its previous incarnation and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. We arrived early on a Saturday and there was already a small queue waiting for the doors to open. Once inside, the place is much brighter and although plainer, had some nice details. We were quickly seated and given menus. We ordered a selection of dim sum and a couple of other dishes. I would highly recommend the dim sum which all turned up hot and tasty. The prawn dumplings were succulent and the pastry skins nice and thin. The pork puffs were flaky, moist and sweet – probably one of the best in town, and the vietnamese spring rolls perfectly crisp and not too oily. They had a couple of items that you don’t always see on traditional menus like the curry puff and and the xo scallop dumplings which were really good, as well as the mooli cubes done Malaysian style. The beef ho fun noodles were also excellent – they can sometime come too oily but here, it was really good and the beef was tender. The veg we ordered (gai lan) was perfectly crisp without being hard. The Hokkien fried rice was also very good. My favourite was the portugese egg tarts – OMG, yum!Staff are friendly, efficient and helpful, In summary, this place is a classy one (proper table cloths and napkins), with good quality, authentic food with decent portion sizes at pretty reasonable prices. Top marks! I will definitely come back.

Satisfied. Once again, my friends were craving for Chinese food during our visit in London. We got into Kam Tong a minute before they closed at 10PM.All dishes were tasty and flavorful but they were all a bit too oily. I just did not agree with their 4 GBP for a small bowl of rice. Servers were nice.
