Mogador Lounge is definitely not a quick-meal restaurant. With a Moroccan atmospheric setting and an uncomplicated menu, this place created the perfect setting for a long meal on a showery day. Truth be told, it might have been a better experience on a sunny afternoon what with all the metallic oriental decoration that makes the place a pretty place to enjoy a meal. The service was extremely friendly and attentive and although I understood the menu quite easily they all seemed to be happy to help with recommendations. Now, the food was absolutely delightful and praise-worthy. The Halloumi in its warm chewy goodness made for the perfect appetizer while the Kofta in Tomato sauce as a main is definitely something I will go back to Mogador for. These lamb meatballs swimming in a subtly spicy and flavourful gravy was a flawless pleasure as a hot main on a cold day. Its almost stew-like nature was the perfect soul food. Had I not been so full-of-food, I would have ordered some dessert but we received some complimentary Baklava anyway. My only criticism for this hidden gem seems to be that they should have their name displayed on a board somewhere on the outside since it was quite a task finding it even though it is on a main road. In a nutshell: Given that there isnt a dearth of Middle Eastern/Arabian restaurants in this part of London it is a happy surprise to find one that stands out from the rest in terms of its food, service and overall experience.
Mogador Lounge encapsulates everything I look for in an Arabian dining experience. The dcor lent an authentic atmosphere to the meal, which would have been completely immersive, had it not been for the gloomy British weather starkly visible from our window seats. Some of the staff seemed quite new but they welcomed us warmly and were attentive throughout. The two mezze options I chose were Falafel and Halloumi, old familiars that were uncomplicated and tasty. The leaves underneath could have been fresher, but perhaps they were more for decoration? For main I had Lamb Tagine Barkouk, which was really excellent. The lamb was cooked to perfection. Hours of slow stewing must have gone into the dish to achieve the result. The prunes, almonds and sesame seeds created a nuanced dish of pleasant variety. Couscous, rice and pitta were included in the cost. Service charge is added on automatically, but fair warning is given on the menu and the prices were not terribly high; it wasnt low-priced but you dont inhale sharply at the bill. I would gladly return.
