I’ve been to this place on three occasions – the first one for drinks while the last two were dinners. Suffice to say that each visit was an enjoyable experience, else I wouldn’t have brought my team here for that third visit. I would describe this place as a quintessential English manor, complete with marble flooring, wrought iron and gilt bronze accents and studded seating. It is intimidating at first glance but truly welcoming once you get to know the place. The place exudes opulence from the polished dining area, to the elaborate staircase and even to the mirror-laden toilets. I don’t see such lavish interiors that often so it was quite a joy to see.To complement that beautiful interior, was superb service. The crew was both friendly and efficient. That English politeness was ever present in this place. The staffs acted with gentle demeanour and spoke with soft but clear voice. They moved like clockwork, with all starters coming out at the same time, followed by all mains, then all desserts. Nothing was missed or left behind. We all ate at the same pace. The dishes I tried here were good and memorable. Each one was perfectly prepared, beautifully plated and nicely flavoured. I had the seared king scallops before as a starter and it was juicy and lightly briny. In my last visit, I went for the honey and grain mustard glazed Gloucestershire old spot pork whizzers. It was soft and super tasty. The honey mustard sauce was well balanced, with sweet undertones and without a hint of vinegary taste. For main course, I tried the roasted Gloucestershire old spot pork belly and the cod and tiger prawn curry (recent visit). The pork belly was good. It was tender and delicious but the cod and tiger prawn curry was a notch higher in the taste category. Both the prawn and cod fish were cooked beautifully. I assumed those were cooked separately to be both spot on. The curry sauce was light and did not go over board with the spices which I liked. The sauce was able to achieve that multi-dimensional flavour without overpowering the prawn and cod fish. Among the desserts, I tried the chocolate cookie sundae and chocolate brle. The chocolate brle had that consistent, smooth texture and strong chocolate flavour. It was delicious but was not as grand as the sundae which was one massive dessert with everything thrown in. It was too much after a hearty meal but every scoop of it was a delight. For the ambiance, quality service and good food, the pricing here was very reasonable. I will definitely be back the next time I am in the area.
