Efendi is so much more than just another kebab joint. While the entry point is very busy with lots of folks waiting for their takeaway orders, the restaurant opens into a large, beautifully decorated restaurant with glass windows all along the wall facing the street. Service was polite and efficient, but the food was superb.The complimentary bread with a vinegary dip (with onions and spices) was lovely. The. Read was fresh out of the oven and soft yet crispy.We went for the mixed hot starter (mezze) platter which had a little of everything and an additional hummus to dip stuff in. The falafel and borek were outstanding and I loved the courgette fritters. It’s quite filling and an almost complete meal for 2. However, we also ordered a main of chicken and lamb kebabs. It came with rice and salads. I have to say the lamb was excellent. While the chicken was good, the lamb completely stole the show – tender and beautifully flavoured.Excellent food at very reasonable prices, comfortable cosy seating, lovely quick service and an amazing display of Turkish plates on the wall. Being a regular diner at Efendi Restaurant in Cambridge Heath Road just off Hackney Road. just with a group of 6 friends, was quite shocked at the level of service and disproportionate portions of food. Total spent over 100 and was given 10 worth of food. Absolutely disgusted when confronted them of portion size. Ordered their most expensive platter when it arrive we noticed certain foods were missing, this was not mentioned to us by the waiters and when asked they stated they had run out of rice and kebab which is shocking for a Turkish place!! When we asked to compensate with other food they said no and refused to discount us for the food which was missing! Full price for half the meal!! Unbelievable!! NOT GOING BACK THERE!!!
