It’s always a buzzing vibe when you enter this place. With over 20 beers on tap and plenty more of the bottles variety to choose from in the fridges that line the side of the room you will be spoilt for choice. Outside of the beer a highlight was the meat platter, decent value for 10 and the giant olives were quite possible the best I have ever had. Juicy/flavoursome and huge! A great place to start the night meet some friends before heading to dinner nearby, when the summer arrives the outdoor sitting area will be fantastic!
Last Friday we had dinner booked in at the glorious Typing Room in Bethnal Green Town Hall (separate post to follow, but spoiler…it was bloody brilliant). Dinner wasn’t booked until half 8, so after work we headed over to the arches by Bethnal Green station. This area of Bethnal Green has changed dramatically since I first moved to the area and the arches now house some great places to eat and drink. I’ve still not made it to Mission. That’s next on my list!We just wanted a few drinks and the husband is very into his craft beers so I suggested Mother Kelly’s. I’d not been before but had heard great things about the vast variety of beers they serve.Well, it went down a treat! D loved it and is already planning his next trip back with ‘the boys’. They describe themselves and a bottle shop and tap room. Which is exactly what the do. They have over 20 taps of beer on offer and prosecco on tap to – this made me very happy! They also have a whole wall of fridges full of beers from around the world. They stock hard to find bottles and many of the London breweries beers. We ordered some bread to keep us going until our dinner – the platters look good there too. I started with a bottle of Pressure Drop, I am always drawn to this brewery’s beer because of the wicked colouring and design of their labels. I tried the Bosko which I hadn’t tried before (I normally get the pale fire). It was quite orangey, I liked it, but later switched to a glass of prosecco, I do love my bubbles! I actually don’t know what D went for (I’m rubbish with beer names!). He went for something off the tap and then a bottle, again with a great looking label. There is a really nice vibe in Mother Kelly’s. The staff are really helpful and knowledgeable and the variety of beer on offer is probably one of the best in London. Also, its amazing to go somewhere on a Friday after work and it not be rammed. I love Shoreditch but it can get so busy, especially on a Friday. Maybe I’m getting old but I do love a little space! dalton-banks.co.uk
Delicious beer, fun atmosphere friendly staff! The perfect place to go and have a few drinks with friends whilst tempting your taste buds with the wide variety of delicious craft beers on tap! The atmosphere is fun and relaxed, they have long bench tables inside making for a social and enjoyable environment. The outdoor seating, with long picnic tables, is perfect for warmer days and mild evenings. The selection of beers on tap alone is extensive; we had a blast sampling as many as we could as the evening went on. They also have fridges that run the length of the walls with more beers than I could wrap my amateur craft beer enthusiast head around. The staff were so helpful and friendly, offering samples and recommendations based on what we liked and didnt. Some of my favorites were the Cherry Ale, which was an interesting brew; starts off like a beer and finishes with the crisp taste of cider. And also the Krombacher Pilsner. The menu changes regularly and it is always fun trying out something new. The beers are reasonably priced too on average about 4 pound.
A nice little repurposing of a railway arch. Beers aplenty and the quality is top, they also have prosecco on tap if you’re that way inclined. About 10 seconds from Bethnal Green station it’s probably the best place around there to get a decent beer. Lovely place to sit on a sunny day as well.
Bethnal Green used to be a pretty scutty place. But then it seemed that Shoreditch sprang a leak, with cool new bars and restaurants (Sager and Wilde, which I may have mentioned once or twice, Clutch) springing up on Hackney Road, which joins Old Street to Bethnal Green. And this spread further with Satans Whiskers opening on Cambridge Heath Road, and that has now been joined by the new home of the Dead Dolls Club, plus the redevelopment of the arches by Bethnal Green station. And so now well, Bethnal Green is still pretty scutty, but you get the impression that it might not be for long.Putting aside how I feel about the spread of Shoreditch to the east and what that might mean for rental prices in my area, Im pretty happy to have so many lovely new places a mere stop away from my flat.On Friday the plan was to go to the Dead Dolls Club to see Kansas Smittys jazz band and maybe stop in on the Craft Cocktail Co on the way. Which is what I thought we were doing as we approached an open arch I hadnt seen before, stocked full of bottles. On closer inspection they were beer bottles, not cocktails and actually we had discovered Mother Kellys, which could easily become a favourite of mine even though I dont like beer. This place is a beer kingdom they have six fridges with bottles of all kinds available (to drink in or take away for a 25% discount), and on top of this they have 20 more beers and ciders on tap! They serve one red wine, one white, one champagne, and keep food to a minimal but well-chosen offering of meat and cheese boards. I tried a bottled cider I hadnt had before and followed this up with a white wine just to see how much attention theyd paid to it. It was unusual very fruity and verging on sweet, quite soft and round. Very different to the wines I normally drink but not unpleasant. The beer on draft is served in 2/3 pints in the main, but they’re priced accordingly so you’re not getting gypped. We then headed up to the Dead Dolls Club at about 10 pm, which is when I knew the band were meant to be taking to the stage. jaminaward.wixsite.com
