What an experience. We had been wanting to try out this place after reading and hearing some of the reviews and I must say that I wasn’t disappointed. A tad expensive, but a truly amazing culinary experience. We ordered the 5 course pescatarian menu and each course was a delight to the eyes as well as the palate. The entire meal takes anything from 2.5 to 3 hrs so be prepared to have a leisurely meal.
Visited for lunch on Friday September 29th. We sat for 3 hours eating and drinking some of the best food I’ve had in a while. Every mouthful of the 5 course tasting menu was flawless. Lee even visited our table for a chat and let us try a few new dishes he had up his sleeve including an incredible pasta dish with a sweetcorn cream. The dessert combined flavours of apple and dill, an incredibly balanced dish. The whole dinner was sublime, relaxed and innovative, introducing me to flavour combinations I have never experienced before. The only bad taste left in my mouth was the discovery that this restaurant does not have a michelin star. Thank you for an impeccable lunch. I was left thinking about it all weekend.
Authentic British restaurant in London is really rare. There are many British restaurant but there are very few which are really very good and worth eating.
The Typing Room is set within the fantastic Art Deco Bethnal Green former Town Hall. The Town Hall is now a successful five stars hotel with a trendy bar and an easy going restaurant on the other side of the building. The Typing Room is the successful high end restaurant, based on the ground floor. The place is not so big so you are better off booking well in advance. The waiting staff will take you quickly to your table. The atmosphere is nice and not too stuffy. The open plan kitchen brings some warms to the place. From the starters to the homemade bread, to the mains and desserts, each dish was a success, combining creative tastes and textures. The place is ideal for a special occasion or to have a great foody time !
This is a small restaurant based close to Bethnal Green underground station and situated in the old East London town hall in the communications area. Parts of the borough have become very fashionable but not the where the Typing Pool is based, so most people come specifically to eat here .We opted for the lunch menu even though it doesn’t really offer much choice. However, what we did have was wonderfully tasting, with every bit of food on the plate complementing each other,. I chose the cod as the main which was good but what was even better was the sheeps yoghurt (it was either this or the cheese). I have to say I loved the yoghurt, beautifully presented and equally superior in taste. The price was a little high and the service could have been a little quicker, and in all honesty it was difficult to understand the waiters at times, not only because of their thick European accents but also because the music was too loud and did nothing for the ambiance of the place. I would have liked a little more choice on the menu, but all in all a very good meal was had.
