Much beloved by all British Library fans (myself included), this small cafe sells cakes and a small range of sandwiches/salads and hot/cold drinks. It’s an integral part of the library, so I recommend having a look at the library (including its exhibitions, of which many are free) before going for a snack at the cafe. The atmosphere is library-centred; clients are students, academics and researchers. The cakes look very good (I’m yet to try them), but I am sometimes a little disappointed by the limited selection of food and drinks otherwise (the salads used to be better!)

Wanted a coffee while standing in line for Shaw theatre to open. The closest place (non Starbucks, non-Pret) was this cafe. I like the coffee by Peyton & Bryne, so when I saw that it was open until 6:30pm, it was a no-brainer.No hot snacks at 6:30pm, but they did have muffins and a couple of cakes.Picked up coffees and a muffin, which was perfect to consume while waiting in line. While I have seen these guys open on previous visits to the Library, I’ve never had the opportunity to step in, as it always seems to be stuffed to the gills. But they do have a full menu during the day with hot meals too. on.fb.me

The reason why the British Library caf gets a 4 is because it’s a great place to study and has food that is healthy and tastes good. This may seem basic but many study cafs in London fail to meet such fundamental requirements. You can rest assured that you’ll have a productive day here and will not burn a hole in your pocket to fuel up.

The cafe at the British Library is a perfect place to have a tea and cake while studying or meeting with a colleague. Quiet but not silent, and loads of desktops and seating.

The perfect spot to take a break.I just came for a cup of tea, but was o, so tempted by the many (if rather expensive) scrumptious looking cakes and jam-packed sandwiches. The tea was very nice, and surprisingly cheap, (1.65) compared to the rest of the selection. The staff were smiley, efficient and helpful. But what really made my visit particularly enjoyable was sitting there embracing my surroundings. The cafe is surrounded by walls of thousands of books, and really makes you appreciate how fantastic the British Library truly is.It would have been an extra nice touch if there was some squidgy sofas, but then I suppose people would never leave!I will return again, and treat myself to a caramel shortbread; even if it does cost more than my oyster fare.
