Very friendly staff and good ambience but the service took very long. I tried the fish and chips, and I think it was not that special. The batter was crisp and the fish texture was great, sadly the dish was bland. I suggest requesting for salt (and vinegar if you prefer) if you are trying the dish.

Friend at hand! Very classic english pub hidden in the backstreets of Russell square. This pub from the outside looks a bit shady as it is hidden from the sun and view. However, atmosphere in there on big football nights is really good. The pub serves basic beers, nothing too special. They do serve quite a typical english menu to eat. The food is honestly quite average. This place is really more of a pub where you drink. My advice: great football vibe, not much more. Enjoy!

The Friend At Hand offers hearty food in good portions, but at slightly higher prices than I’m used to paying for pub food. My impression of the pub when I first went there was that the interior was a little dim and gloomy, but some people like that in a pub. However, the staff themselves were far from gloomy and service was both friendly and quick. I think this pub’s strength lies in its fish, and I recommend both the fish and chips for dinner and also the fish finger sandwiches for a filling lunch.
