I visited the Marlborough Arms as part of a work Christmas party. The food was so poor I almost cried. For starter I had the bubble & squeak, topped with chorizo a poached egg & hollandaise sauce. It had been left under a heat lamp so long that the poached egg had gone crispy, the hollandaise sauce was bright orange & very sweet – hollandaise sauce is not supposed to be sweet – overall a very confusing dish topped with a rubbery poach egg. For main course I had the roast beef & turkey dinner. The ‘roast beef’ came in an inch thick slab and wasn’t roasted at all, but resembled a lump of stewing steak and tasted like cat food. The roast potatoes were obviously frozen and were so dry they were inedible. The stuffing was out of a packet & obviously hadn’t even been roasted and was stone cold. The food looked like it had been thrown at the plate. For dessert I had Christmas pudding. It lacked so much flavour that it was more like eating stale bread. It was surrounded by a white substance which was either custard or cream, it tasted of nothing so I am yet to figure out what that was. Overall this was probably the worst meal I’ve had the misfortune of eating this year. However, after making a complaint I did receive a phone call from the area manager who was very apologetic and has refunded the entire meal. If it wasn’t for this saving grace in their customer service, they would have scored zero

Hi there guys,The building this pub is built into is old and beautiful, but the pub itself could definitely do with a bit of a renovation. It is slightly pricey, and for that reason it may be more of a favourite of the lecturers rather than the student in this university area but there are a bunch of positives. The food menu is good as they do good pub food quite well. But also, if you go past the stairway to the male toilets, you should find a 2nd room which not many people know about. IT has big dining tables and grand furniture and it is a nice place to go so long as it hasn’t been booked out. In fact once I saw Johnny Vegas in there! Give this pub a hit, you are guaranteed to have a great time.

Be careful. Pub food beyond your wildest nightmare! This is as low as it gets. Can’t believe places in Central London still serve such garbage. Everything is frozen and then microwaved or deep fried apart from the little sachets of ketchup and brown sauce. Hygiene in this place is horrific too.
