When I first saw the Anchor, the cottage look, the plants outside and red wooden windows just melted my heart, then you come closer and the ghosts of its history speak to you through the medieval dark stones of the building. On entrance amongst the loud friendly voices of the crowds, the comforting aromas of simple delicious home cooking and the cozy Art Deco interior, the walls tell tales of history, drama, tragedy, crime and adventure! You could lose yourself pondering over a traditional pale ale or a mature Whiskey cocktail!! Another historical London icon.

Almost hidden on the south bank side, this old pirate hideout has a charm in its passages, rooms and terraces that few other pubs retain nowadays and it has such a rich history that a visit is a must. The food is good, the prices fair and the staff efficient and caring. Because it’s part of the Walker chain, there is little surprise on the menu, but it still delivers on flavour. One of the perks of this place is the opportunity, given a good weather, to sit outside, and watch the traffic goes by on the Thames, highly recommended!

Positioned on the edge of the Thames, the Anchor providesstunning views and great outdoor seating perfect for an evening drink. Duringthe summer, the outside bar provides relief from the hustle and bustle inside, and means a bar is never too far out of sight. Its popularity amongst touristsduring the day, and businessmen in the evening, can act as a drawback, but thisjust provides further evidence of its charm. Serving traditional pub food and a variety of ales, thisspot is ideal for those looking for a break after a busy day in the office or out seeing the sights. As well as fullcourses, the Anchor provides an excellent array of finger foods, with its owntrademark platter a particular highlight. With the interior less captivating than the scenery outside,The Anchor is best visited on a clear evening. But, no matter your company, TheAnchor is a great destination for those wishing to fill their stomachs withmore than just the local ales.

The worst. This is everything that can be wrong with a pub. Part of a chain of pubs that has seemed to have forgot about this one. Disgusting toilets, dis interested slow staff, low staff numbers on busy weekends, very very poor management. 100 people crammed into the side bar when the larger bar next door is closed at 3pm on a sunny summer Saturday? This is the worst place I have ever been to

Good food… everything else is awful. The atmosphere and the service was just atrocious! The beer was tasty, but it took forever to get it. Skip it and go somewhere that it not so touristy – anywhere really.

Fool me three times, shame on me. Every time I come here to order a drink to sit on the river side, there is a 30 strong queue, wrangled to the side bar when there is a much larger bar to accommodate in a more convenient position by the door. To make matters worse there are usually 3 bar staff who regularly take breaks resulting in 2 bar staff who appear to have been trained to have no concept of urgency or respect to the 30 people across the bar becoming more and more inpatient. The only reason this pub is able to survive is because of its position, I urge everyone who wishes to drink on the riverside to buy their drinks from the countless shops nearby until management cleans itself up.

Tasty pub meal. Pretty good quality pub food and good prices. Really good location (you can sit outside next to the river if the weather’s nice). Good selection of drinks too. We had the steak pie and the chicken pie. The steak pie was the nicer of the two.
