we love our family, friends and food not always in that order! but find a place to bring them all together and share some wonderful memories is really what makes us happy- we recently had our anniversary and my wife’s birthday so decided to make a special trip into London booked a show and looked for restaurants – big choice difficult choice but decided to look at a few reviews, luckily we found Applebee’s and bookedwe decided to get early to the market and spent a hour or so wandering round tasting samples of what ever caught our eye or our nose.we arrived by chance outside and saw the Applebee’s restaurant sign with a que of 20 or so and thought wow will we get in? on closer inspection the restaurant have a hot plate cooking seafood in wraps and the aroma’s were mouth watering and attracted a lot of hungry souls.although a full hour early we decided to look at the menu and see what the restaurant looked like as this was our first visitThe fresh seafood board was full of delights and after viewing were about to leave for further market shopping when a friendly face with a broad smile approached and asked if he could help, after a brief discussion he offered to bring the full menu and the drinks list and showed us the table where we would be sitting it was occupied by regulars he approached them with a ripple of laughter and a few minutes later we were seated and chatting to Jack and deciding what wine to have with our dinner Jack’s knowledge of wine was exceptional and after a few photos were taken we were left to enjoy one of the best meals we have eaten, stunning. we have arranged for our friends and family to meet again at the restaurant in September and are looking forward to the experience and meeting Jack againit was a real pleasure with a vibrant market tumbling past and to find the sanctuary of a beautiful seafood restaurant with great staff and a first class owner Jack it was an experience we will treasure forever.
I enjoyed a late lunch here with a couple of friends. In short stick to what they are good at … Fish! I went for the surf and turf and the steak was not good. On the other hand the lobster was fantastic. Lovely and sweet and buttery. Half decent wine list and good service. Simple interior.
I had the experience of visiting this place and found it to be quite decent in terms of food. The food was delicious and it was quite reasonable as well. The only thing that wasn’t that impressive was the service. I feel the staff could have been a little more warm and friendly. All in all it is a nice place to be in.
A foodie delight. Hard to find anywhere to eat at Borough market when you’re battling the post-work crowd. Showed to a couple of bar stools at Applebee’s Fish with, admittedly, no great expectations. Wow. An amazing prawn Caesar salad and a beautiful lobster ravioli with saffron and fresh tomato. Tasty doesn’t do this food justice. thefoodieworld.com
If you’re a fish lover go here. The menu has the date printed in it, showing they vary it & use fresh fish. The dishes are interesting, simple & brilliantly cooked. We’ll be going back.
Delicious fishes. My latest trip to Applebee’s was my third, and by far the best. On previous visits, although the restaurant hadn’t particularly disappointed, it hadn’t particularly satisfied either. Through slow improvement, however, Applebee’s is now at the top end of the London Bridge restaurants, and certainly several degrees superior to fish!, the alternative down the road. Starters were an inspired combination of a fresh Caesar salad with generous portions of hot smoked salmon and bacon. The salmon is strongly smoked, adding a touch of chilli-spice to the velvet-smooth Caesar sauce, and well complimenting the crisp lettuce shards. The croutons, although perhaps left in the sauce for too long, are joyfully full of herbal flavours, nicely rounding off a beautiful start to the meal.If the starters was a great re-imagining of a classic, the main course linguine was (to me at least) a great new idea. The pasta was combined with muscles, clams, crab meat and porcini mushrooms, for a dish that satisfied and filled in equal proportions. The sauted spinach ordered on the side was entirely superfluous, but perfect nonetheless. All of which might suggest that their core offering of perfectly cooked fresh fish has taken a back seat. In fact, this couldn’t be less true – the grilled sea bass was perfectly cooked, deliciously moist and meaty. Whilst the accompanying chestnut sauce was somewhat lacking in oomph, it gave room for the vegetables to assert their own flavour. Most impressive though was where Applebee’s had identified it’s prior problems and worked to correct them. The coldness in the air is deftly defeated by cast-iron heaters strategically placed around the restaurant, leaving diners toasty-warm on even the coldest days. The service, whilst still a bit spotty, has gone from inattentive to spirited, adding a sparkle to the whole experience. Entirely recommended.
Food & wine OK – but avoid the manager and maybe the restaurant….. Made our way to the restaurant through Borough Market, looking at stalls and getting a cup of hot mulled wine – what Borough Market is all about. At the restaurant we went to the table at the rear offered by the waiter, with the half empty cups of mulled wine in our hands and slowly as my friend is partly paralysed on one side. When we sat down then the waiter came back and told us we had to leave if we wanted to drink the mulled wine – very matter of fact. I told him that if they forced us to leave then they’d simply loose our business so he got the manager who told us their business is to sell drinks not let people bring them in. No friendliness, no attempt to get a mutually beneficial outcome, just a ‘couldn’t care less’ attitude. His attitude alone made it impossible to stay even if we’d poured the drinks away. As we got up to leave and I told him he’d not only lost our business that day but future business (6+ times a year) he stood next to us, intimidating and making snide comments as my friend struggled to get up and put his coat on. So for the sake of ‘policy’ and to gratify his ego he looses 50 today and 600+ in the next year. So, food and wine OK – that’s why I went there – but …..
