We had Beef Rendang and Thai green curry. They are beautifully presented and taste fantastic! However, I think all mains should come with rice…..there’s no way you can just eat these mains by themselves, definitely need rice with them! Order a bowl of rice for 3.50 on the side is a MUST. (Be aware that the bowl is not big though…..) Can’t wait to go back and try other dishes soon!

Champor ChamporSo good they named it twice….Champor Champor is a Malaysian restaurant a stones throw away from the shard in London Bridge. On entering the restaurant your transported into a different would from the concrete jungle into a heavily laindened Aladins cave…decor is rich with colour and textures. My friend and I hadn’t made a reservation which we was surprised we was even asked as it was very quiet….by the time we left the place was bursting at the seams with people and others were being turned away as there was simple no space.Make reservations for this place people…We was given a complimentary banana bread slices to wet our appetites (free always goes a long way with me)Having taken our orders the food was served very quickly,I’m always sceptical when food is served that fast but from the presentation down to the smell it was clear this was made with attention and love.I ordered Grilled chicken thigh curry, asparagus, butternut squash (15.95) with a side of sweet potato mash (3.95) We also ordered a beef rendang (16.95) with sticky white rice (3.50) I have to say there are very strange fusions of food on the menu but what we tried worked well! The staff were friendly enough and could have been more friendly in my opinion, however the Champor Champor gets a thumbs up from me!Cost – 10Drinks, Food – 25+ Group size – 2-4ppl Location: 62-64 Weston street,London SE1 3QJ Carlstimeout rating – 8/10 carlstimeout.com

Is it a Malaysian/Thai restaurant or more Thai/Malaysia we pondered at the table. The answer? If were being strict on definitions, its neither. The ideas are there: satay, green curry, rendang, but they are far from authentic. While Ill always be a traditionalist when it comes to Malaysian food, in this case, it really doesnt matter, the dining room was full of happy diners. These fusion, Westernised versions are pretty tasty and full of flavour; my satay duck was strong on the peanuts and a little sweet, just how I like my satay sauce to be, and the duck breast was still pretty in pink in the middle. The prawns in my green curry were ginormous and juicy, but the curry itself lacked any kind of heat which was disappointing for a spice fiend and curry enthusiasts such as myself. Special mention has to be made about the exceptional service; we received thoughtful recommendations, the food arrived efficiently, and any requests for extra chillies or sauce were easily accommodated definitely a neighbourhood gem! connieconsumes.com

I must admit that London Bridge is one of those nearby areas of London that I still haven’t quite grasped the foodie scene for. I spend so much time around the stalls of Borough market and trying to avoid the tourist traps that I’ve failed to find those secret hidden foodie gems lurking around on the side streets. So when a friend of a friend suggested Champor Champor and I saw how close it was to the station, I was slightly sceptical about whether it would be just another tourist trap. I do find it hard to find South East Asian restaurants close to home that I love but I can now confidently declare that this will be one of them.We went in a group of 4 on a Thursday evening and when we saw how busy it was, we were glad to have pre booked. They left me an answerphone message to confirm in which they told us we would have a 2 hour turnaround but in reality, we ended up staying well beyond this and were not rushed out at all towards the end, though were rushed every so slightly when we first arrived for placing our orders. The amouse bouche which was tuna based came as rather a nice surprise and choosing what to order ended up being quite tricky as my finger moved down the menu wanting to order one of everything! In the end, I chose the goats cheese and honey pastry starters, which were delicious and the king prawn green curry, which was certainly the mots innovatively presented green curry I’ve had in a long time! It was actually lesls curry and more prominent in huge battered king prawns and delicious tender pieces of butternut squash and I had it with a side portion of sticky coconut rice. My meal ended with a refreshing, palate cleansing green tea and pistachio parfait and if I’d had enough time, I’d certainly have loved to have ordered a Vietnamese drip coffee, that I grew to love so much during my trip to Vietnam 2 years ago.The dishes at Champor Champor are packed full of flavour but have an innovative, ,creative and original flair to them, setting it apart from so many other pan-Asian and South East Asian restaurants I have been to. And we ended up paying approximately only 25 pounds per head with 2 of us ordering alcohol and 2 of us having soft drinks so for a restaurant just a stone’s throw from London Bridge, to find such delicious hearty and original food and such great value prices, is really something of a secret. Here’s hoping it stays that way but I will definitely be returning to this cosy, dimly lit aromatic restaurant one day again soon! whywasteannualleave.com

Nuala Mc Laughlin really nice unique restaurant, food as delicious. The house wine was excellent. Service was good but slightly slow but overall I would highly recommend this restaurant. Would be great place for date night.

Came here with a group of 7, we were given the private dining room below which was nice, but quite cramped with an odd porch swing chair taking up 1/3 of the room. There was also confusion regarding when our reservation was but lucky the table/room was free. The service was fairly attentive but a bit awkward due to the space of the room. For dinner I ordered the roast duck in flat roti wrap and the monkfish with spinach & ricotta ravioloni in mango puree red curry. Both of these looked great on arrival but the sauce was overpowering. For the wrap, I really wanted to pick it up to eat it but the sauce was drizzle all over preventing this and also due to the styling of the dish, the wrap are placed upside down so everything falls out when I tried to pick it up, and the sauce also made the roti not as crispy as I liked. The fish was lovely, cooked just right, and the broccolini was a welcome addition, but the curry sauce was too salty and ruins the dish. The large ravioloni (or should it be raviolono, as there was just the one giant ravioli), was buried at the bottom and I felt it was slightly undercooked for me to enjoy, or rather again ruin by the overpowering sauce I couldn’t taste what was in the parcel.I tried some of my friends’ dishes too – the lamb shank was fairly good, braised well and well-flavoured. The side order roti was very nice. The banana curry, whilst I didn’t try it, looked very unpleasant and many banana slices were left at the end.Their menu looked interesting and modern, but overall it was a disappointing meal.

Not bad but could be better. I went there with my friend last night for a dinner; we loved the decor and the ambience. The place is small and table located quite close to each other so you feel like seating at the same table with people next to you. The food was great but for the portions they served way overpriced! The short man wearing hipster glasses who served us was a bit rude and had no idea how to speak to the client or make us welcome but the rest of the staff was nice and friendly. The other downside was that the courses were not served at the same time; good chef should know how to time the service. Overall, good food, great flavours but too small and too expensive, if not the deal on testelondon card I would not be happy.
