Silka is located on Southwark Street right inside Borough Market. We always choose Silka purely for the convenience of it’s location. However, our last return visit was very different to previous. Prior to the visit last week, we last dined at Silka last year and wow what a change. From the outside it is more noticeable. Walking down the steps to the restaurant the changes were noticeable. Fresh and updated. The owner introduced himself and actually took time to converse with us and get to know is and what we liked in terms of food and palate. My god were his choices of dishes amazing and the best curry we have eaten not only at Silka but in the area, almost on par with Est. India and Mango Indian, no surprise there as it turns out the same management team now own Silka. To summarise, great menu, amazing flavours and friendly staff. Highly recommend and will return soon

We stumbled upon Silka while looking for another restaurant. And were happily surprised.Reading the past reviews for the restaurant took me by surprise too.Dinner was so pleasant. Our party of 9, including kids, ordered quite a variety, and had all the dishes wiped out clean by the end! Chicken, Lamb curry dishes were delicious; Naans, Tandoori starters dish were a delight too; Dal and Paneer Saag was well cooked, not the best but it was hot, well seasoned (and presumably is perfectly in line for the London palette. Now we shouldn’t forget where the restaurant is based. It is just very silly & unfair that some people expect what they are used to back home in LON!)I have lived in London almost a year and have eaten at many ‘Indian’ restaurants, which in reality offer a bastardized experience of Indian cooking. Silka is definitely not amongst them. This restaurant is way way better. I didn’t find anything complain- worthy to be honest. Not to forget that the staff gave a great service, and made sure we were well fed and happy!

It feels important when you get a dish outside of the designated menu. So as the case with us when we got Paneer kadai and its one of the times when you get the flavours right even outside Indian land. Mixture of little tangy and spicy.Main entrance is little bit tricky as you need to step down couple of stairs to reache to the restaurant and if you don’t have the map then you will surely be missing this place in the crowd of nearby restaurant. Price is average and ambience looks like simple and cozy.. not so high fy.. overall a place you can go again just to have a nice food.

The food is really bad. It’s NOT Indian. It’s Bangladeshi. The person who took our order said we didn’t have any main dish to order because we were vegetarians. Turns out there was plenty we could choose from. But nothing tasted good. They got a 2 because of the nice hot tissue you get at the end of the meal

Don’t do it!!. At last, a review I agree with – I had almost exactly the same experience as Mould. Im not a complainer, but the food I ate on my first (and last) visit to Silka was simply appalling. The only thing worse than the food was the service (for which they added 12.5% in spite of the dreadful food) and the manner in which my complaint was dealt with.Lowlights: flavourless recommended dish; dry, reformed chicken pieces swimming in sauce, soggy, almost bendy poppadums, defensive staff (you havent had Goan food before (yes I have, in London and in Goa), you didnt tell us when we asked how your meal was (they didnt ask) the chicken is dry because we cook it as chicken tikka before we use it. You must not like chicken tikka (a lie, the chicken was all identically shaped, reformed chicken cooked off the premises by 3663 or the like I know because I used to work in a restaurant that did the same) and my favourite this is supposed to be a watery dish (ohh, yum!))Highlights: getting out of there.Speaking to a few people near us we werent the only people who complained that night. The best we could find was one person who said his curry was fine, but nothing special . Save yourself the disappointment, head to one of the many other Indian restaurants in the vicinity.

Avoid like the plague. You have a choice, try Silka or give yourself a better quality of life and visit the numerous other perfectly acceptable Indian Restaurants in the area.If you like watery, bland, loveless curry then this is the place for you.If you like slow, poor, carefree service then book a table here.If you dare to complain to the (so called) Manager about your food or experience you will simply be ignored and the card machine will suddenly appear and you will be ushered out.Service charge included……oh yes, despite a polite complaint.Make a choice. Avoid.

Mixed bag here tonight. First bad was very slow service to get our water and our order. First good once order was in food service was fast with appropriate gap between app and main. Korma, pasanda, and makhani very good. Goan salmon horrible. They agreed that salmon was bad and didn’t charge for it. Really close to a thumbs down but customer service in the end saved them.
