We got into the Barrowboy and Banker after a chilly walk on the south bank of the river from the Tower Bridge. It is an extremely inviting and elegant building with the high ceilings, beautiful staircases and wooden tables. Went there for some ciders with friends and we loved it and it was one of the best pubs we have been to in London. Was also pleasantly surprised to find the Anne Askew portrait, near the ladies room.
Nice pub just before you get into the Borough Market area. Amazingly old building with high ceilings. Mezzanine area for dining on simple food or ground floor for beers and wine. Large tv’s to keep an eye on sports. Mixed crowd, but mostly suits minding their own business. We had wine and was quite surprised how expensive it was. It also wasn’t chilled. Not the best pub in the area, but also not the worst. Very heavy on the menfolk too. Gorgeous chandelier. cookandpour.co.uk
Super place for the sports fan and his/her special friend who wants to ‘keep it classy’, the barrow boy is not your typical sports pub. First off, its gorgeous in a posh British Pub kinda way! All wooden bar, staircase and panneling… high ceilings….massive brass chandelier…just really pretty! The pub food is also very good and not ridiculously expensive.Great place to go if you want to see the game (Madrid (wooooot) vs Juventes) but are with a crowd that wants a more relaxed venue.
Situated almost opposite London Bridge station, this is one of the best pubs I have personally visited. The atmosphere is lively, and the crowd is young and exuberant. The best part is that it is not too noisy, so is suitable for having a conversation. The prices for drinks and food are average, what you would get in any other pub in central London. The pies are a speciality here, and are worth a try if you don’t mind spending 9. The selection of music is good, and big screens are put up for the rugby and football matches. Staff are helpful and surprisingly efficient. In spite of being crowded, food is served quickly and one does not have to wait long at the bar for to be served drinks.
