Do not book for large groups. I booked for a group of 30 for my business conference for an 8pm meal and I was embarrassed and disappointed in front of all my colleagues. Not only did the food not arrive until 10:30pm, when it did it was cold and we were charged for the meals of the six people had had to leave because they had waited from 8 til 10pm for their food and had to get taxis. Disgraceful. Such rude service. I used to be a regular here, but I will not be returning.

In my opinion the best Indian in the harborne area, I’ve been harborne tandoori & regards, I definitely rate bangla above them. The food is plentiful and extremely tasty, the guys always look after you, there is a decent midweek meal deal. Can’t beat a free brandy after your meal to.I’ve used their takeaway service too and this is always great.

Went again to Bangla lounge Harborne and had another very pleasant time. Having been before with three friends, this time there were six of us. Starting with the imli imli imli starter which as as delicious as before, this time I opted for thr Mix Jaipuri dish which was a delight. Not too hot, but packing plenty of punch this dish is a hot and sour mouthwatering treat. Like a pathia but a little richer i found the mix of good quality lamb and chicken very satisfying. Others started with a variety of starters from the tasty lamb samosa triangle to the trio of starters including prawn on puri which we have enjoyed before.Interestingly we all opted for peshwari naans which are crisp yet soft and chewy with a dash of syrup and nuts on it which works really well. Sweet but not intrusively so it was the perfect match for the hot and sour flavours of the jaipuri which was also chosen by another of the diners with me. The only person to order pilau rice instead of a naan also chose a korma which was creamy, rich and fragrant. The meal was washed down with a couple of large cobra beers which were well chilled and as good as ever. To my surprise, despite not having enough room for a desert (the usual suspects of bought in ice cream variations and kulfis including the ubiquitous coconut kulfi in a shell) we were treated to complimentary coffees and brandy and my wife was given a double pastis as it was her birthday.Considerate and attentive yet low key service only helped to make the experience pleasant and rewarding. I thought Id review his restaurant a second time as they deserve the praise. I hope you enoy your meal there as much as I did. 06 Aug, 2013 Had a lovely meal at Bangla Lounge last weekend. We had a couple of drinks and didn’t arrive till after 11pm. The staff had clearly had a busy evening, but took the trouble to be polite and courteous and service was prompt. We start with some poppadoms which were nice, crisp and fresh and served with an array of dips and onion which covered all the usual bases. The starters included a chicken puri and a dish I had never had before called something like ‘Ilam Ilam Ilam’ which was a lovely hot and sour dish with chicken, lamb and prawn with just the right balance and heat level.I had a mixed Jalfrezi which again contained the trinity of meats which held their own in the sauce which was a happy medium heat with some tasty fresh peppers brightening up the flavours . I would have liked a few more prawns but the balance was good, plenty of tender lamb in their place. Overall rather nice. The rice with it was flavoursome too, I certainly couldn’t complain. The piece de resistance though and it might sound stupid but it was their nan breads. Being of the thinner and more crispy style – divided helpfully up in to quarters – they were the tastiest nan breads I think I have ever eaten. Between us we had a delicious plain nan, a really beautifully chewy, crisp, sweet and coconutty peshwari nan and a garlic and coriander nan which was very good.I found that the portion sizes were very well judged too. There was nothing left when we had finished, but we all felt completely sated. We skipped deserts. We left a larger tip than we normally would as the meal justified it.I’d definitely go again, it didn’t disappoint.

Very polite staff, told us about the restaurant facilities. Tamarind chicken lacked the sharpness of tamarind but enjoyable nonetheless. Lots of nice complimentary extras like coffee, brandy or Baileys but more importantly attentive polite service. Great value for money. Recommended for low key nights out.

Worst Indain in Birmingham. If you want a friendly, quality dining experience avoid Bangla Lounge at all costs. I went there for the first (and last) time last Sunday night and I can honestly say it was the worst dining experience of my life by a long way. Things didn’t start well as our waiter was surely and rude, snatching menus out of our hands, forgetting orders and acting annoyed when asked for anything. The starters were also disappointing; the salad on the plates was old and had obviously been sitting around a long time. The side sauces were straight out of a pot, full of artificial colourings and disgusting to taste, and the onion bahji looked like it had never seen an onion. But it was when we got to the main that things really started to go wrong. My partner and I had both ordered a mild prawn dish; the sauce was white and thick and tasted purely of corn flour, and the prawns were a tasteless rubber. We ordered several naans for the table, and they were dry and more like an overcooked cheap supermarket pizza base. We complained to the waiter who brought the manager over, and we and asked him to take away the naans and prawn dishes. He would not accept any criticism, and alternated between asking what was wrong with the food and getting angry and defensive, and stormed off several times while we were mid sentence. I have never been treated with such rudeness in all my life and was genuinely shocked someone would behave like that, especially when there were other diners in the restaurant! He wanted us to order something else, but based on the poor quality of the food I said we would like to just have the dishes we could not eat taken off the bill. He then brought over the bill and slammed it down on the table while the rest of the group were still eating, insisting we were paying for everything. When we disputed it he called the police and had his staff stand guarding the door while he waited for them to arrive! What a complete waste of police time; it only took them a couple of minutes to realise the manager was being completely unreasonable and got him to take the dishes off the bill. What a joke of a place; who calls the police over 18 when the food is obviously sub-standard? It is such a shame as there are plenty of lovely Indians in Birmingham, but finding one that had such appalling food combined with staff who had the people skills of shrivelled prunes was beyond belief.
