I have eaten here on several occasions in the past and have always found the food to be excellent. I & a friend went for a meal a couple of weeks ago after we saw that the restaurant had expanded as we know the owner had been wanting to do this for some time. We had booked a table but no table had been reserved, so we asked to sit in the new part of the restaurant when we arrived. What a mistake! Very poor acoustics. The restaurant was busy and there was nothing to deaden the sound in the annexe – including a very loud sound system in the ceiling just above our table. Before the expansion, the owner had prided himself on providing good quality food – especially meat for the kebab. Unfortunately the service, presentation and quality was not up to standard. Overall a very disappointing visit – especially as we had been intending to take a good friend there for a first taste of Persian food. The manager by the name of Hosein was rude and had a horrible customer service. it seems he came from chale maydoon without any manners. I had to witness him shouting at his staff. I had the most uncomfortable restaurant experience I have ever had.
I like the food here. Typical, end of the road middle eastern fusion place and it’s certainly not expensive. The decor is nothing to write home about but the meats are well marinated and full of flavour. My favourite item on the menu is the homous with pita bread. Decent place to grab a quick bite to eat before a night out!
Good persian home cooking great choice beautiful decoration inside the restaurant I highly recommend their kebabs but they have a good array of different Persian dishes.
If you live around Croydon and are looking for a place to hold a meal for an occasion, Abshar’s the one. Its traditional decor sets a homely atmosphere, along with the Persian background music. I would recommend the platter if you are going in a group as the portion sizes are big and enough to fill everyone. During my last visit there were 8 of us sharing 2 platters with the bill coming up to just 10 pp! The platters come with a range of different meats, 2 portions of rice and salad. Their jugs of fresh orange juice also compliment the meal.Overall, we had a great experience but the only complaint would be the slow service 🙁
