Been to Chennai dosa outlet in Croydon last night for a quick dinner on a weekday and also tried their breakfast buffet on Saturday morning. Here is my opinion about the Chennai Dosa outlet in Croydon.Good food, dutiful service and great value for money are their USP!Ambiance 3.5/5A casual dine in place and the space is maintained really well in terms of cleanliness There are some wall posters that depicts the Indian culture The decor is simple The seating options are average Food 4/5Tried Buffet breakfast on Saturday morning The options we have for buffet breakfast are goodTo start off its a proper south Indian breakfast. We have Idly, Mini Medhu Vedas, Poori bhaji, Upma, Pongal, Rawa kesari and Plain dosa which would be served to you once an order is placed for. What I liked the most Medhu Vedas are good, Poori and bhaji is tasty, Pongal is a bit bland but tasted good has fine blend of pepper and some cumin seeds which enhanced the taste.Upma was just passable and idly was a bit hard and dry.Even Rawa kesari was just ok, had no hint of sweetness or cardamom or ghee added to it. Had few bits of cashew and color added to kesari. The plain dosa is pretty descent. What they can improvise upon The refill time for any dish that is complete is neglected, staff have to be a bit keen and make sure things are refilled on time. And I have noticed most of the customers complaining about this and its kind of unheard and a deaf ear is paid to. Not a good sign! Then on other day for dinner tried their Masala dosa and Veg biryani along with the sambhar rice and a dessert The batter used for masala dosa is good, the dosa is thin and crispy not too oily again. The sambar is a bit bland but the chutneys given as accompaniments are pretty good. The veg biryani is pretty good. A good blend of veggies and basmati rice, the veggies are cooked well and the rice isnt too sticky. The biryani is apt on spice quo.The sambhar rice is cooked with long grain rice and mixed with drumstick sambhar Mildly spiced one Then garnished with lots of curry leaves and corianderThe flavors and aromas are apt No complaints The accompaniment s given along with them are good – papadam , pickle and spiced chilies which are bang on After a long time relished such good sambhar rice Then choose to try the gulabjamoom Its the dollops of sweetness and its apt tooThe sugar syrup is a bit thinBut could have been great if they used a thick syrup and then a bit of cardamom Service -3.5/5The staff are polite and do suggest if you find it difficult They guide you and help with the menu They get a bit lazy during buffets and are not attentive again.VFM -4/5The best thing about this place the prices are not expensive They are pocket friendlyThe food is delicious And even the prices for non-vegetarian fare is food Kudos team Chennai dosa will be back soon to try other delicacies krantiawelltravelledgourmand.wordpress.com
God family restaurant to enjoy traditional Indian food. The food is tasty. Like the kotthu paratha. The portions are good. Only bit Indont like is the slow and confused service. Other than that their buffets are good too.
Good and hygiene restaurant.Has a very fast service.Sambar items of south indian cusine can be even better.Has only chennai in its name but foods and beverages can be also south indians.dosa varieties could have been much better.I have taken a keen on sambar idly which made me excited to think of such food in a such a place croydon and also onion rava was my second dish which wasnt upto the chennai peoples mark and as a final touch the filter coffee was the not good maybe the name chennai should make them a better coffee next time
