The Ship is a good, old fashioned, sturdy drinkers pub in the heart of Croydon. The theme is, as you guessed, a ship, with nautical references and galleon style paraphernalia bedecking the walls. It’s all dark wood and small alcoves, old barrels being offered up as tables and a raucous weekend atmosphere. The Ship is one of Croydon’s few alternative drinking spots, playing rock and metal music from the 70’s onward and live bands perform on the small stage on Wednesday nights. Friday and Saturday night hosts DJ’s who’ll spin your favourite headbanging tunes while you mull over a choice of Hobgoblin or Spitfire from the cask or a very reasonably priced selection of world lagers. Food-wise The Ship offers a roast of a Sunday plus a very good fish finger sandwich, among others. This pub isn’t for everyone; the denim and leather clad smokers hanging around outside may put people off but if you’re up for a good time and enjoy shouting into your mates ear over 80’s hair metal then this will be the place for you.
