I absolutely hated this place! It is not that the food is bad or the price, but service is terrible! Since the moment you walk in, the staff’s only goal is to get your table clear as soon as possible. If you happen to go upstairs and not finish by 9pm, too bad, they’ll ask and insist that you eat quickly and leave as they need to clear the room. They might even close the lights to rush you up.I never thought I’d be treated this way in any place!!

Amazing how the waiters managed to get across their surly attitude when I was in the restaurant for about 10 seconds collecting a takeaway order.

Do NOT let JIA’s chic, dark exterior fool you. Their positive ratings are because they’re the only Chinese restaurant in the area. Monopoly is the basis of tyranny. The food is unsophisticated, overpriced, portioned for ants, and the servers are beyond rude.1. Food AuthenticityI spent over 16 years in Hong Kong and Singapore; dim sum and the food they serve run in my blood. How does it compare? Absolutely poor. The dim sum is an uninspiring, lazy copy of many of the better restarants in London (Pearl Liang, Bo Lang, and for a pound or two more, you can afford Michellin star grade food from Yauatcha or HKK). I dont doubt that some of their dim sums are from frozen brands. 2. Food portionsFor the sake of an objective review, I’ve visited here on three ocassions, braving through all their atrocities. I thought, maybe I visited during an off day. NOPETheir Beef Ho Fun (9.80) comes with 3 meager beef slices. Their Char Kway Teow (9.80) has the same protein to noodle ratio as Chop Chop’s, a cheap takeaway chain found all over London, Char Kway Teow (5.80). The worst offender here is the Deep Fried Calamari — for (3.50) you get 4 rings. 3. I’m glad to see that other people found the service rude as well. To be honest, its beyond rude. And no, it doesnt stem from a cultural misunderstanding or anything like that — the servers here are rude, plain and simple. On one occasion, they told me that I couldnt charge my phone as it stole electricity from the restaurant. If they’re willing to be this cheap in the… ‘services’ they’re willing to offer, god knows what they’re skimping on in terms of food sourcing and quality!4. Restaurant Ambiance/EthosJia in Mandarin, the most widely spoken Chinese dialect, translates to ‘home’ or ‘house’. However, Jia also has a cultural definition, describing a place of refuge, a place of home, a place where you feel safe, and a place where you can comfortably nourish one’s body with wholesome, home-cooked meals. The restaurant JIA, however, could not be further from the truth, reducing the beauty of the Chinese language and culture for their selfish gains. In short, this restaurant not only serves mediocre food at inflated prices, but they do their own culture and country a disservice. Shame on you.

As the only real alternative to Oriental Canteen in South Kensington for Chinese food it holds something of a monopoly position. It is a significant step up from the aforementioned restaurant and the price reflects that probably putting it near the top of Chinese restaurants. Expect to pay something around GBP20 for dim sum whereas in China town you would expect to pay GBP13-15 or so. Although the food quality is slightly better than average, the surly waiters unfortunately let this establishment down. quieteating.com

David. I had been many chinese restaurants, apart from china town I dont expected that this small restaurant in Chelsea serving a well presented and good value especially the dimsum and some of the food compare to some restaurants along the Knightbridge, the waitresses are quite friendly to us as we enjoyed our meals, the restaurant is well located near South Kensington and the V&A anyway I still highly recommend friends to this restaurant

Never ever again!. This used to be a family favourite. WE loved the food….sadly the service is now so utterly rude and obnoxious that I would recommend you go there ONLY if you like to be insulted and treated like dirt.Very sad when a place with good food lets itself be ruined with such unpleasant front of house staff. We will never go there again.
