Average Chinese food but at very good prices, around 4-6 per dish, with some veggies, meat and either rice, fried noodles, or noodle soup. Great for getting a quick bite to eat.
If you don’t care about food quality, food presentation and think it is better not to know what’s going on in the basement kitchen (with no direct access to the dinning area) this is the Chinese restaurant for you.For me it is still a midterm how this restaurant is still open in one of the main squares of South Kensington.
Definitely a place to go if you live or work in South Ken, want Chinese food and are on month end. 5.20 for this double roast meat with rice and 4.80 if you only want single roast meat Quality is reflected in the price so this isn’t a place that I will go all the way to South Ken but portion is good enough for most people unless you have big stomachs like me and price is competitive in London zone 1
Been here a couple of time, good place to have a quick cheap meal in this area with decent portion and flavours. The menu is on the table but I always forget to consider the more faded new menu on either side, which includes a couple of Malaysian and more specialty Chinese dishes. Meals are around 5 (main dishes are a bit more cos they are larger dishes) and their can of soft drink is only 60p.It’s very small so you might end up sharing tables with others or sitting outside. They have a couple of non-Asian staff so English is not an issue and they also have bits of Chinese written on their notes for the special of the day. Service is quite fast and I always felt under pressure to order quickly too!
It’s cheap and the food comes in large quantities. It also tastes alright if you don’t mind greasy Chinese food and its cheap. It has a fair variety of the usual Chinese food favourites and its cheap. Did I mention it is cheap? quieteating.com
Worst Chinese restaurant in London ever, period.. Bad taste, very small potion, dodgy waitress with the bill. Definitely a place to avoid if you can.
Cheap and unpretentious. With hardly an abundance of cheap eats in South Kensington, Oriental Canteen stands out amongst the crowd. While not the most enticing of places from the outside and with spartan decoration within – it isn’t the place to bring a date or have a languid meal. However if looking for a quick, cheap feed for around 5 the food and portion sizes are decent. I had the chicken chow mein which was topped with a surprisingly generous amount of meat for the price. Make sure to have some cash on you as they don’t accept card payments.
