Hammersmith is like the other side of the earth to me. As a bordering East end lass there needs to be a pretty compelling reason to commute over there for an evening. Recently, we had a kicker of a reason with Postmodern Jukebox dropping by London on its global tour. A trip to Hammersmith Apollo to see this talented bunch was on the cards, so din dins in the area would have to be on the agenda too.My dining companion, Sam Vanilla, had worked in the area so suggested a pub which served good thai. I was game so we headef on over to The Latymet, a Fullers pub.L’Oreal and Virgin offices are nearby as well as many office blocks, so an after work crowd filled out on to the street. It was the first time it was marginally warm after all. Inside, groups of office folk celebrating the pending weekend downed pints and sipped wine. It’a decent size pub and brightly lit. To the rear is a seperate area, not closed off, but clearly the thai restaurant area. Sam vanilla recalled it being a popular spot for food and one of her fave thai places. We settled down at our corner table and as she knew what she was having, I briefly scanned the menu for king prawns as that was what i was craving. There it was. Jumbo prawns grilled in their shell. You really can’t go wrong with that. For the first time ever I also had a side of egg fried rice. My dining companion had what looked a chicken noodle broth. Full of goodness. The food was good as was the atmosphere, definitely worth a visit if in the area again. cookandpour.co.uk
Latymers is a blink and miss pub located on a corner of the massive Hammersmith road….once you walk through the doors, past the facade of a regular pub/bar, you enter a small dining room that serves good, simply prepared Thai food. Service is brisk and friendly..should you ever find yourself in Hammersmith, eat here…. A no. 10 bus drops you almost at the doors.
Unfortunately this place does not allow BYO. They do a great chicken pad thai though. If you order a curry i can recommend ordering a coconut rice to go with it. So fragant and delicious with a spicy curry. The best part though is the pandan pancake. So much so that I came back again just for dessert. justnossy.com
I eat here regularly and highly recommend everything! Their Pad Thai is fab and Weeping Tiger signature dish a favourite. Loads of delicious stir fry and curry dishes!
Absolutely brilliant Thai food! Love everything on the menu
Excellent Thai food in pub setting. Mobbed busy at Friday lunchtime.
Paradoxical places to eat are becoming more and more prevalent in London, Latymers is no exception. It looks like a English pub, it has all the same facilities as an English pub, serves the same drinks as an English pub, and even shows sport like an English pub. But web you walk in and take a deep smell you get hit with spicy and aromatic aromas feom cooking that’s very non-English Pub. I visited Latymers three times over the last week and sampled two of the Thai dishes on offe and I was very pleased. You get very large portions, and considering average London prices it was very good for 6. The have a menu, however will quite happily tailor your dish to your needs. A Hindu co-worker of mine wanted tofu in his and not meat to go with a particular sauce that was only served with meat on the menu, this was no trouble at all for them and produced exactly what he wanted. The food itself was packed with flavour and very nicely cooked. Be warned however, if you choose a hot dish make sure you are prepared mine was very spicy with plenty of chillis! A spicy dish is just about right if you like a little extra oomph. Portions were large and filling. Service wise, it was excellent, despite a large group of us ordering, more often than not the waitresses knew exactly who ordered what and it was all brought out within 15min of ordering which makes this place ideal for lunch. If Thai isn’t your bag, they do have a selection of traditional pub food just incase. The bar staff were also exceedingly friendly. Will be visiting again when I am in Hammersmith next.
