Laveli has always been a great place for breakfast or coffees. However since there has been a staff change the service has really deteriorated. They dont understand the menu and ask stupid questions even when youve ordered the same thing for the past 2 years. This morning was the last straw as I was kept waiting for ten minutes while the waitress flirted with a customer in her native language in front of me. She was oblivious to the need to serve other customers. Eventually I got fed up and left to go somewhere else. We regularly spend 50 a week there but maybe the cafe feels that customers are not important.

Muzak. Always had great food and service at Laveli but in the last few months I have been unable to relax and enjoy a coffee and some cake because of the terrible background music. Some meandering jazz that has no substance or form seems to be all that is played now, I was there yesterday and there was some piano playing that sounded like Les Dawson, previously there was an excellent mix of Pop, Rock, Jazz ,Soul and Folk including songs I didn’t know which made it a refreshing change from the radio. Tedious Jazz from a Pound Land bargin CD is acceptable occasionally but not every hour of every day, most people wouldn’t notice the background music or care unfortunately I do notice it….Paulette

This place opened just before the recession hit in earnest but the fact that they’re always doing brisk business speaks for how utterly amazing the cakes are!! Whoever took over the running of the place is nothing short of a bakery God. Bread, cakes, sandwiches – can’t fault any of them. Many are nothing like you’ve had before, and even simple things like apple pie, once you’ve tasted them, make you realise you’ve been short-changed all your life till now. Ok, premium quality asks for premium prices, e.g. Around 2.50 per cake portion, but you will never regret it.
