Ridiculous. As a Belgian I was invited with family and friends (8 of us) to the Trappiste. It was quite an experience. The Turkish waiter seemed to know nothing about beer or the food he served – although it didn’t stop him making up explanations. In fact when ordering Belgium’s most popular beer he tried to serve us the non-alcoholic version. Things then got progressively worse as the beers were served warm in an ice bucket and in bottles with the caps on. He poured salt on the beers and ice and then prised the bottles open with cigarette lighter. The food was not great but everyone thought it decent, but the service was ridiculous (and I come from a country not noted for its service.) We tried in vain to get the attention of the waitresses as they ran by in panic (On 3 separate occasions glasses were smashed in the hour that we were there.) One even acknowledged us and then never returned. Another took our order and never served it. Finally, after laughing off the incompetence, the bill arrived to which our waiter pulled up a chair next to our host and try to intimidate him into paying a tip. He was not impressed with this behaviour but left a token pound’s worth of change which was met with disdain from the waiter. As we came outside he shouted over that our host had forgot his change in a unsuccessful effort to embarrass him. I told him I would have asked the owner for the service charge back. A ludicrous experience from the minute we entered until we left.Perhaps someone should actually be selecting staff and training them rather than the just simply paying a motley crew that can’t even serve a beer.
Awful service.
We had a very enjoyable dinner here, service was good, food excellent and the manageress was friendly. Great selection of Belgian beers. I had the platter fruits de mer. A dressed crab, salmon fillets, oysters and rock shrimp. The bread was delicious. All in all, very enjoyable. Shame about the bad reviews as we has a faultless evening!

IN SPITE OF us arriving quite early, 3 of six ordering Sole from the specials board, and not being told for about ten minutes that they hadn’t anyIN SPITE OF one of the starters (Soup) arriving just as the rest of us were finishing oursIN SPITE OF no bread coming with the soup when it was finally delivered – on complaining two separate waiters brought separate bowls of bread, and another brough us a whole rustic loaf!IN SPITE OF two main courses – not ours – being delivered to our table while we were still eating startersIN SPITE OF having two bowls of fish stew -we had only ordered one- being delivered to our table a very long time before any other main coursesIN SPITE OF the fish stew appearing from the top to be mainly in-shell mussels in a thick tomato sauce, with no clear way to eat it without using fingers – and finger bowl not being providedIN SPITE OF one main course – a beef stew – not arriving until all the rest of us had finishedIN SPITE OF a problem with the billWe had a really enjoyable evening and very good food
Absolutely awful. The restaurant in itself is gorgeous however the manageress is very rude!
The food is very very good but the service is very very bad – the staff are just complete amateurs, theyre friendly but they don’t know what they’re doing at all. Hopefully they’ll be trained properly soon or they will be the death of this otherwise wonderful restaurant.
