Dinner 31 January 2016. The initial service was excellent, the food good. The sommelier was really helpful. However the follow-up service was not 100% – tried and failed to catch a waiter’s eye for more wine on several occasions.
Over rated San carlo. Nice surroundings, average food, but awful service. Crammed in like sardines, think they have got greedy. Like Butlins! Staff were miserable and as I have read on other reviews stunk of smoke too! Waiter was very rude looked at his watch twice whilst taking our order. When I suggested to the matre de that the staff made it a miserable experience he basically looked and spoke to me like muck, very patronising! Appalling, time to retire I think if he cannot take constructive criticism. Think the bubbles about to burst on this one!!
Lovely surprise. San Carlo picked the best spot for new customers like me. I happened to just stumble across San Carlo after not being able to make my mind up about where I wanted to eat but I definitely picked the best place, I was so impressed. It literally felt like being in Italy in there, and you could tell just how fresh the food was it was lovely. Normally I think I could cook the same quality food I get served in some places but I am no competition for San Carlo. Hopefully wont be too long before my next visit.
Good choices. Had a great night here – really good food and good atmosphere. Services is a little odd but not bad. This restaurant has a branch in Birmingham but its not a patch on the Liverpool restaurant.
The Emperor’s New Clothes!. I was looking forward to trying this restaurant but left feeling disappointed and vowing never to return. The food was very nice but this can be said about many restaurants so it does not set it apart. It felt like a canteen, i.e. they had crammed as many tables into the space as possible. They also have paper tablecloths which I think is very poor for a city centre restaurant. The service could have been better. Our table was not offered back pepper or parmesan (surely the norm for an Italian restaurant) and had to ask for it. I feel that it has become the place to go in Liverpool for all the wrong reasons!
A perfect dining experience. I’ve read quite a few reviews about San Carlo and so was prepared for everything when I entered the restaurant on Castle Street. We were sat immediately upon our arrival and the waiter approached us exactly when we were ready to order our drinks. Regarding the quality of food I can honestly say without any exaggeration that it was spectacular! It is also hard to believe the staff could be rude there, because the friendliness and attention we received at San Carlo should really be an example for other restaurants.
Bumped for someone who they deemed more important. Been here a few times. Last time we had booked, had to wait 30 mins over reservation time and when a table did become free it was given to someone else who’d just walked in but who knew someone in the know. We then had to wait another 30 mins. We did get starters free because of this but in my view it’s unacceptable – we’d booked and are paying customers. Very unimpressed.
