Disappointing Fathers Day Lunch. We went along to the Griffin this Fathers day based on their having changed management, redone the interior and hired a new Chef. The pub itself inside is very nice and although it was Fathers Day seemed a little quite. We ordered the roast beef and the roast chicken. My partner is a Coeliac so we checked that there was no Gluten or Wheat in the gravy or any the part of the food and were assured that the Chef was Top Class and would never use flour in his gravy. Ok we thought sounds great. Unfortunately the food arrived within 2 minutes of our order which is a little quick really. The food looked great but was unfortunately stone cold and the potatoes looked like they had been reheated several times. We tried a bit of the mash and it was basically no heat in it at all. We request kindly that the food be replaced and so it was taken to the kitchen and as far as I can tell it was returned exactly as it was when we first received it. This time it took twice as long to not reheat it than it did to bring it out in the first place. But the Chef sent his apologies. After that with a 5 year old who was hungry and a 4 month old baby getting restless we decided to simply eat it and leave. When asked if the food was ok now we told the waiter that the food was still cold and we were only eating it because we were actually quite hungry and didn’t want to wait for a second time for the food to be returned again cold. He just walked away and returned 5 minutes later to say nothing more than. The Chef send his apologies. No mention of any real apology or any concern or understanding. It was a disappointment that ruined our fathers day lunch and one we will never repeat. We will be sure to tell anyone we know that the Griffen is not to be visited and will continue to go to the Bell in Godstone or the Red Barn in Lingfield where you can always be sure to get a hot food and excellent service.0 our of 5 from us I’m afraid.
