What: Chinese RestaurantWhere: Regents Park, N. London, EnglandValue: 20ppFood Review: If there’s chicken satay on the menu, especially halal, chicken satay has to be ordered. These did not disappoint and satisfied a chicken satay mandatory starter. Next the crispy shredded beef came and was by far the best dish on offer. Tenderly cooked on the inside, and crispy on the outside, what more would you want. Next the chicken with mango, a slightly too sweet tasting dish covered in slightly too much salad, tasty but not wow. And finally, the standard egg fried rice and noodles, completing a Chinese meal.Note: The Chicken and Beef are halal, not the duckLocation Review: Set alongside Regents Park, Feng Shang is the first floating restaurant of its kind. Its beauty stands out when looking over the basin. The boat pays a homage to its heritage with its long rooms decorated in traditional adorning Chinese flair. Inside there is plenty of seating and tables with quirky knick knacks hidden at every turn. Positives: Crispy beef, quick serviceNegatives: booking system chaotic, no dessert3 word: Busy, order quickly sobernstarving.com
This is a place I discovered online accidentally. It appealed instantly and I decided we HAD to go here.Feng Shang Princess is not a restaurant you will just pass by and say, ‘hey, let’s go grab a quick bite here. I am starving.’ It’s a place you would reserve for date night or a special occasion. So it’s no surprise that on the deck we were seated, every table except ours had a birthday!! Feng Shang met all my expectations and more! I was went for the canal side experience, but was mind blown by the soul stirring food! Don’t go here if you are trying to newly build an impression with a date; it will be a battle between looking prim and wanting to lick your plate clean. You will drown in the delicious and huge portions of gorgeous Asian food. For starters we had the chicken gyoza and prawns in wasabi. For mains it was chicken in mango and chilly paste, and the crispy duck with plum sauce and pancakes. Portion sizes are quite enormous! Skip a meal before your visit! Gyoza are usual dumplings. The prawns are lip smacking and would go here again just for the prawns. The chicken in mango-chilli sauce has drama with the sweet and spicy; can skip. Duck – excellent with large portions. The dessert menu can do with some fixing; lots of choice but not as impressive as the food menu. Also, no single malts of the list; just blends!Ambience is amazing and warm; albeit too cosy in terms of table arrangements. Then again, it’s a boat! As soon as you enter, it’s like a flight from London into the lap of Asia. This is a hidden treasure and should be kept that way! Three suggestions – 1) seat large groups in a separate area (I wish all restaurants could do this!). Especially as this is a fabulous date night venue. So can do without the banter boom boxes! 2) Play music. 3) Some of the staff can take a lesson or two in being warm and friendly.Loved the place; will go again! currycular.wordpress.com
This is an extremely quaint andromantic floating canal-side restaurant that is set on the Regents Canal, on the edge of Regents Park and adjacent to the London Zoo. The hand-crafted Chinese pagoda-style boat looks particularly great illuminated at night. This is the restaurants unique selling point, as the food varies from average to good, with a few notable exceptions. With a generally higher standard of cuisine, this could have been one of the best romantic restaurants in London. Unfortunately, it is not and things are not helped by an over complicated and extensive menu. In terms of value for money, it is pricy. However, in isolation, there are a few very good dishes and such a romantic setting is hard to find. I can recommend: the Crispy Aromatic Duck, Crispy Shredded Beef, Deep Fried Salt & Pepper Aubergine & Smoked Shredded Chicken. Limited Halal Menu.
HALAL!! Another great chinese restaurant. no fancy building or monumented pillers. This restaurant is set on a boat in regents park canal. From the outside its little tacky led lights. Once inside its a different story. Low lighting romantic. The food is very good and staff always adhere to your needs. Portion sizes are adequate and the price is reasonable. Its a wow reastaurant. Will impress anyone. (Ps pictures with no flash didnt want to disturb other customers)
Food didn’t take too long to come and was steaming hot on arrival. Really lovely food and worth the price, would definitely recommend and plan on coming again!
Decent food – good service – overpriced. Avoid noodles dishes; try their sweet corn crab soup
Not the absolute best Chinese restaurant in London but worth a visit for it’s location and uniqueness. Situated in Regent’s Park it was magnificently hand crafted in the 1980’s, as the first floating restaurant of it’s kind in London. As I said the food is not great and a little bit expensive but you are more coming for the visit than for the quality of the food.During the sunny days, you can have a lovely walk in Regents Park after the lunch.
