About
Let us take you back to the 1940s/50s London with award-winning, traditional British fish and chips. Enjoy mouth-watering, fresh, sustainably-caught fish, cooked in crunchy batter and served with golden chips and classic mushy peas. You'll enjoy your meal surrounded by authentic 1940s/1950s memorabilia including a jukebox and Second World War posters, lovingly curated by Poppies owner Pat'Pop' Newland. Pop has been serving fish and chips in the East End for 60 years, and, following the success of the first Poppies restaurant in Spitalfields, brings his passion for this much-loved dish to Camden. Customers can find the same great quality food and service here, and the venue has live jazz/swing/pop/blues bands playing every Friday and Saturday at our Fish 'n' Gigs nights. In addition to fish and chips, you can choose from other British favourites, such as pie, fish cakes, saveloy, battered sausage, and that love-it-or-hate-it East End special - jellied eels. For those with a sweet tooth, we've included some traditional English puddings such as apple pie, Cartmell's award winning sticky toffee pudding from Cumbria and ice cream from the Minghella family business on the Isle of Wight. To wash it all down, choose from our selection of drinks which include English cloudy apple juice, ginger beer, wine, beers and local ales. Our take away food comes wrapped in newsprint boxes or cones, just as it was in the old days. Reservations are not a must, but we do recommend you book in advance as it can get very busy.
