We have eaten in quite a few top restaurants including the Simon Radley at the Grosvenor in Chester, Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley, Northcote Manor, Frache in Oxton and Gymkhana in Mayfair. Some of these have come close to the quality of food at Gauthier – but none have surpassed it. I first booked this restaurant for my wife’s 50th……and despite being apprehensive over the fact that they had previously held, but lost a Michellin Star, I booked anyway based off how amazing the menu sounded I’m so glad I did and have never looked back. We have been back many times and have another trip to London booked at the beginning of June for our wedding anniversary – with one of the main purposes of the trip being another visit to Gauthier. The setting is cosy but friendly and it’s nice to see familiar faces on the waiting staff year after year. The food is classic french in nature, but very well done. Their truffle risotto is to die for and I love the Foie Gras starter (when they have it on the menu). The only criticism I could level is that the service isn’t quite as slick as some of the other restaurants we have eaten. Don’t get me wrong – the service is excellent, but some places just seem to take it to the next level. This doesn’t bother me as I don’t really go for the pomp and circumstance – i’m there for the food first and foremost, but if you are used to eating in such places regularly, I can see how you might find it slightly lacking.Overall though – it’s my favourite restaurant in the country by far and I hope to be in a position to make many trips to eat there in the future.
We had the tasting menu and wine to match. Every course was outstanding and the wine very nicely paired. This place was a new find and despite being kind of formal it wasn’t stuffy or stayed. A very nice modern twist on trad French cuisine. The lunch was great value as a tasting menu.
We have been twice to Gauthier this year and twice we have been very happy with our meal: delicate and classical dishes but it feels modern cooking with a twist and imagination. Very good wine list and the service is really great: you feel happy in hat place
Upmarket feel, great atmosphere and attentive service. Amazing food created by Alexis Gauthier and his team. The tasting menu is highly recommended; in my opinion it is one of the best. Dont fill up on the amazing freshly baked breads at the start, as you will definitely need to save space for dessert, especially if it is their signature Louis XV chocolate praline heavenly!!! goantolondon.wordpress.com
I had christmas eve dinner at Gauthier and it was lovely. They setted our table near the fireplace as I have requested. They had a special menu for that data with several different flavours and dishes to taste.Lobster tortellini and vernison were my favorite.Service was excellent! If you want a special dinner, Gauthier is a place to go.
