Sunday 20 November , around 10/11 pm.Horrible service behind the bar . It wasn’t busy but we had to wait ages for a drink .I didn’t count the time on my first order , but on my second one I waited 12 minutes .The girl behind the bar was by herself and the guy didn’t care much about anything .At one point he disappeared from the bar , moved into the kitchen for many minutes and we were left unattended .Everyone waiting was annoyed. He had all the time a sarcastic smile and very little empathy for his colleague and customers .Poor girl having to work all night with him .
The husband has been here many times and wanted to take me as well. It’s a nice place with good prices and ambiance in the heart of Soho.Order their bites platter – it’s yummy and the portion size is good! You need to be hungry to polish it off. Gem feels like a place for wines and cocktails more than beers. Make the most of their Happy Hours! We were there on one occasion on a Saturday, and the DJ played some good music. Though we were there just for a casual night out, saw the booth sections that seem great for celebrations. It can get quite crowded. So best to get here early, get some drinks and nibbles, and party into the night later! currycular.wordpress.com
I went here because I was in the area and they had 2for1 burgers which seemed like a good deal. When ordering, they said they didn’t have any chicken so they couldn’t make chicken burgers. They also didn’t have bacon so they couldn’t make any cheese and bacon burgers. So I was basically left with the option of a standard burger. I decided to have a hot dog instead. It was a frankfurter topped with way too much sour cream. We also ordered a ‘bites platter’ to share, which had some chicken wings, calamari, garlic bread, sausage rolls and onion rings.Basically all the food sucked. I would have preferred a plain cheese sandwich from tesco. I ordered a mojito, but it was also very disappointing.I would not eat at this bar again. And I wouldn’t recommend it either. Maybe it’s better just for drinks on weekends.. But I wouldn’t really know. The mojito I had was sad, so I wouldn’t take the risk. Maybe just order bottled beer. They can’t really mess that up!
I went there on a weekend for a friend’s birthday party. The happy hour is a nice deal, cocktails are almost at half price, 4 instead of 7.5 and the Long Island and the Insomnia are two of my favourite. Though I didn’t try any food myself, the shareable dishes on the menus seemed big enough to provide snacks for four to six people who just want to nibble on something between one drink or the other. The bar has two floors, the toilets are located downstairs where there is a second bar with less tables and boots, but with a wider area for people who want to dance.Despite enjoying the night, there was something about the place that did not convince me fully, I’m not sure I’d pick that as a place to go at again, too crowded and too expensive after the happy hour is over, as we paid 12 for a beer and a cider.I’m not entirely sure on the dynamics of this as it might have been just for the night I went, but apparently after 10 p.m. you have to pay an entrance fee, whether if you’re inside the premise before that time, you just get a stamp on your hand if you decide to go out. Paying a entrance fee and then pay drinks full price is just not worth it in my opinion.
I happened to be at bar/pub on my friends birthday. This place is really cool for weekends. Its amazing happy hours provides 50% off due to which one can have double fun. It was a great time spent there with my friends. Very friendly staff at the bar giving great service. It was a fun night and i would recommend people to visit on weekends to have great fun.
One of the best pubs or bars I’ve been to on a Saturday night . Amazing music , moderately priced drinks , good nibbles and great crowd . The bar happened to have a Hawain theme night on the day I went, the good music and the lively atmosphere made me and my friends have a gala time .Highly recommended to go on a Friday or Saturday night .
Wandering through Soho, as one does, when We came across the Gem. It was advertising fish & chips for 4 pounds so we thought we would give it a try. It turned out to be an excellent choice – 5 of us all had something from the light lunch menu including chilli con-canne, Mac & cheese and a tuna melt. The chilli was excellent, the service friendly & efficient. Although definitely a bar / club it was quiet at lunch time but shouldn’t be – well with a visit and have the chilli !
