Quirky bar, feels like stepping into a townhouse in the Far East, dark and alluring. Al the way up to the top, various rooms with different decor, a decent cocktails lists and a small selection of dim sum from the restaurant below. Cocktails fall short of being worth the money you pay (14 or so each) but its a fun place pastabites.co.uk
One of two cosy cocktails spots in China Town. An unremarkable door, leads you up a lot of stairs (brace yourself) to a cute oriental themed bar specializing in great cocktails. Masters of Drinks stand poised behind the bar, ready to rustle up your chosen infusion. A great list of the new, but I am always intrigued by the old, so was happy to go for a good ole Negroni and Old Fashioned. Both were as you would come to expect from an establishment of this sort, pretty solid drinks. Not kind on the wallet, but the perfect spot for a quick pre-dinner drink or first date. Service is slick, customers are chilled, vibe is cosy. cookandpour.co.uk
Whatever I say about this place will be slightly clouded by the bill I received at the end of a fun evening .. m price conscious like that !! But in all honesty, it’s nice cosy little place for 3 floors of seating, great music – especially for those still in love with 70s, 80s and 90sLovely cocktails – strong ones, good ones.. amazing dimsums. I loved them, I ended up ordering them again..Oh and did I forget the shots. All too perfect. It’s a classy place and hence priced accordingly. Thanks for the evening …
A great late night spot for drinks with friends or intimate enough to be a lovely date spot as well. The playlist is well thought and out and the music at a moderate level (with the exception of weekends where everything everywhere is turnt for the sake of destroying my eardrums) The cocktail list is long and extensive featuring over a dozen signature cocktails with a list of classics thrown in as well. I have walked in here atleast a half a dozen times spanning from midweek to weekends and have never had a problem getting a table. The dumplings on offer are certainly a level above typical drunken food and served until 2:30(!) on weekends. instagram.com
Popped in for a cocktail or a few. Get The Shanghai Gesture – it’s divine. I’m going to say that it’s a good thing I don’t really remember the rest of the night hehe. Staff were super friendly, and it has an amazing, speakeasy-ish atmosphere with a twist of secrecy. Finding the door was half the fun!
Had an amazing Friday night and absolutely loved Opium &waitress who was serving us. Unfortunately, I forgot my bag at the bar and realised itonly on Sunday afternoon. I called the bar and the manager said that they donthave my bag; however he promised to check with my waitress and will get back tome. I never received a call back and I had to call more than 15 times to gethold of someone. The manager confirmed one more time that they dont have mybag. On Tuesday, I went to Opium to check again. Manager confirmedone more time that they dont have my bag. However, I asked to speak to mywaitress who was serving me on Friday. The waitress recognised me and said thatshe knows where my bag is. She was very helpful and she made an effort to findmy bag, which I really appreciate. I was shocked the way the manager dealt with this situation. He obviously, never tried to look or find out where the bag was. He never gotback to me and he never spoke to my waitress, although he promised. Also, Inever received a reply to my email that I sent on Sunday afternoon. He hasnt apologisedand the fact that my bag found so easily when in my presence was totallyignored from his side. Very frustrating.
his late night drinking den is found (where else?) in Chinatown. Like the Experimental Cocktail Club, Opium is tucked behind a nondescript door, marked only by the bouncer waiting outside. A quick nod and a climb up two or three flights of stairs and we found our place at the bar for post The Book of Mormon drinks, a couple of Wednesdays ago. The drinks menu sounds delicious – the Opium #6 with tequila, ginger, oolong tea for example, or the Golden Lotus with its Remy Martin, rye whisky and banana – but we continued our love affair with Kummel and ordered first a Silver Bullet, and then the much tastier and smoother (and papa-patented) Silver Streak with gin. We couldn’t resist the excellent dim sum, so much so that we had to order more to sate our craving for the delicious dumplings. My favourites? The classic pork and prawn, the crab and samphire and the lobster, naturally. thenotsosecretdiary.com
