Pintxos are a version of tapas, eaten in Northern Spain and the Basque region and held together by a skewer. I tried them for the first time in Barcelona. Numerous plates of bite-sized snacks were placed around the bar area for you to help yourself to, like an upmarket buffet. Once you had eaten your fill, the number of left-over skewers was totted up and that was how your bill was worked out. Pix follows the same formula. You can choose from a mind-boggling array of pintxos, including items like tortilla, croquetas, meatballs, and cheeses. Each one costs either 2.25 or 3.25 (indicated by the length of the skewer). It is incredibly easy to stuff your face and I particularly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere created by being able to help yourself to as much or as little as you liked. The food itself was all delicious and fresh, and I did feel like the proverbial kid in candy store when faced with rows upon rows of yummy food.Pix also offers a good range of cocktails and wines, including sherries and cavas. It’s a great place for both a cheap bite and a belly-bursting blow out. I’m looking forward to visiting again and I’m going hungry! thedetermineddiner.com
