First sunny day in months so thought I’d take advantage of it and have lunch out doors. The sun shinned directly on the Seats outside the bank so I took it as fate, lovely friendly service and delicious food in the local pub who knew! Delicious mussel and leak cream sauce over crusted cod, sweet potatoes and lentil cakes and South American scotch eggs! I licked all my fingers clean!

This former branch of NatWest is now a Fullers pub and it certainly benefits from the high ceilings and large space. I went on a Sunday afternoon and was expecting it to be heaving, especially considering its prime location on Northcote Road, but I was pleasantly surprised, although in hindsight that is a good indication of the quality of the place. They offer 3 meats for their roast – beef, pork and chicken – and I chose to go with the beef. Unfortunately they don’t ask how you want it served and it was slightly over-cooked for my taste. The portions are hearty and will fill the biggest appetites but I was underwhelmed by the meal as i’ve had better elsewhere, in paticular at Jam Tree recently. The potatoes were dry and together with the Yorkshire pudding lacking flavour and the rest simply okay. A roast may not be the most adventurous meal in the world but there is still room for cooking flare to shine but here I’m afraid it’s average at best. This is a shame as the pub itself is decent, with a good wine list (including an amazing mulled wine), a pleasant atmosphere (with a real Christmas Tree!) and helpful, if slightly unattentive, staff.
