I have been here just once but it was enough to appreciate the cuisine and atmosphere!! I would definitively recommend it if you and your mates want to fancy a good food with a combination of sparkly games upstairs 🙂
As it was a Sunday we chose to throw diets to the wind and go in for the three courses. We started with two dishes from opposite sides of the world; salt and pepper squid with Asian raw salad, and chorizo with prawns. This highlights how varied the menu is at Four Thieves; some may call it confused, I call it appealing to many markets. It’s not like they’re serving traditional char sui bau alongside classic Spanish tapas. They’re simply taking ingredients and dishes that people love to eat and making them accessible in one place. That said, my squid was a touch chewy in the centre but the batter was perfectly made. The raw Asian salad made a nice contrast to the hot squid but I felt the celery wasn’t cut fine enough and therefore a little overwhelming. I really did like the crisp onions on the top and the dressing was very light. My guest’s starter of chorizo with prawns was massive! The chorizo was cut into triangular chunks with a fabulous texture – soft in the middle, crisp on the outside. There was a good balance of prawns to chorizo and these were all deveined correctly. The bread was a great addition for soaking up the sauce but the salad was unnecessary. And onto the glorious mains. As it was a Sunday we opted for a great big roast dinner, complete with all the trimmings. We both chose the roast lamb for a treat, but the table next to use had the pork belly and it looked incredible. The meat was cooked gorgeously and not at all dry, while the lamb based sauce did dry the mouth a little. The flavour though was amazing. The massive Yorkshire pudding was a touch dry on the outside but when dipped in the sauce became gorgeously bread like. The vegetables and potatoes are both shared in a large bowl in the middle. Now this image doesn’t do it justice – the bowl is massive and could easily serve 4 people, let alone 2! The roasted potatoes were gorgeously crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle (though a few of them could have been cooked for longer). It was a joy to see swede, red cabbage and green cabbage on the plate alongside classic carrots, scary Brussels and a stunning mint sauce. We devoured as much as we could but were defeated after about 15 minutes of face stuffing. theyoungdomesticgoddess.blogspot.com
