The perfect spot for an hangover sunday! Go for the burguer a d you won’t regret it! and of course you don’t need to be hangover to enjoy the food and the nice service they have! Good for some drinks as well
Theres nothing too stand-out about The Plough in Clapham other than the fact its essentially halfway between my house in Surrey and my friends residing in central London. As a result, Ive come a couple of times: once for breakfast and once for lunch. The first time I went, my friend ordered the buttermilk pancakes and fell in love with the vanilla cream. I had food envy. I selected the full breakfast and although I was glad it wasnt swimming in oil, I found it a little dry. The coffee was quite bitter too but maybe I just got a bad cup.The second time was a lunch affair and I had a very bready burger. To be fair, the meat was good and I liked the chips, especially as they were delivered by a lovely waiter who was attentive without being annoying. The place is full of young families at the weekend enjoying brunch with their babies, but I can imagine it being quite a good venue for a birthday/ Christmas party too. syruptitiously.com
Well now, the ‘famous’ Boston Burger is the absolute nuts! The beef burger itself is cooked in bacon dripping and is topped with beer soaked onions, cheese, bacon, pickle, mustard and the pice de rsistance, peanut butter. This may sound a little strange but it’s similar to a satay sauce and it really works brilliantly and tastes great. I upgraded the standard skinny fries to truffle chips for an extra pound which elevated the entire meal to exquisite. Is it worth 14.75? Its certainly debatable as it is pricey but I was immensely satisfied after the meal so I’d say yes!Service is the wrong side of laid back unfortunately and there were several times during the course of the meal when the waitress was nowhere to be seen. Although she seemed to be by herself there weren’t that many people eating so I’d expect just a bit more attentiveness. However all the staff seemed to be pretty chilled. The Plough itself is a great, open plan venue with an eclectic mix of modern day furniture and a cool vibe. If you like your beer there are lots of options including craft beers, ales and exclusive foreign bottles.Despite the service issues overall this is a winner 🙂
Really spacious restaurant/gastro-bar in great location – fantastic meeting place for evenings and weekends. Plenty of space for drinks on an evening with a wide selection of original bitters and lagers. My personal favourite is a bottle of Brooklyn Lager. Priced slightly on the high side the food is well cooked and delivers in value. The Plough is a combination of good food and original drinks but it is slightly over priced for the portions received.
