Almost nothing beats a true Aussie cafe in London. Great coffee and banana bread served with espresso infused butter all for great value. The cafe also sells some Australian favourite tim tam biscuits and chocolates!

There is nothing quite like a midweek brunch. For those unacquainted with London life, weekends can often mean endless queues outside those best brunch spots youve never been bothered to wake up early enough to try. Well, amen to annual leave thats what I say.As we were up bright and early most of the hideouts on Abbeville Road werent open yet. A wander along Clapham Common soon lead us to Australian/New Zealand inspired coffee and bread house, Brickwood. With a reputation for those long London queues, we managed to secure a table for three pretty pronto.Teas & coffees were beautifully presented. Fresh tea leaves made for a brilliant brew and the froth on those coffees looked awesome. To eat, my Mum kept things simple subsidising chorizo for smoked salmon with smashed avocado and poached eggs on sourdough toast. Drizzled in olive oil, this classic brunch dish was fresh and tasty. My brother was a little more adventurous opting for the breakfast burrito with scrambled eggs, hash nuggets, carnitas (pork), red pepper salsa and guacamole. Served in a plastic basket with a small dish of sour cream it was a spicy and an absolutely delicious breakfast concoction!I was tempted by the sound of the sweet potato, poached eggs and halloumi dish. Little did I know it would be such a huge portion! The waitress asked whether I wanted maple bacon, to which I responded I dont know, is it good?, she told me it was really good so of course I said yes. Served with two slices of sourdough toast, smothered in kale pesto and sprinkled with pine nuts. It was a monstrous dish, but oh-so-delicious, and the maple bacon really did make it! Sweet, sticky, salty, crunchy, with oozing eggs yolks and squeaky grilled halloumi it was every adjective on one plate.Brickwood has a brilliant menu with plenty of unique dishes to choose from. Im told the banana bread served with expresso whipped butter is a must-try but the sweet potato had defeated me this time around. Id love to go back for a sourdough toasty and cake. A favourite coffee house for many Clapham residents, it might just be time to brave those queues for Brickwood. emmarosetully.com

What a lovely cafe/mini restaurant right in the heart of Clapham Old Town! The coffee was good (although not as good as the Black Lab a few doors down), but the food we had is what I really liked. I had a savoury muffin (as a Canadian I didn’t know such a thing exists), a cornbread concoction with herbs and spinach, and a dollop of cream cheese on top. I could have had two; herby and lovely with the textures of cornbread I love so much. My American friends would approve! The wife had a three cheese toastie, which was amazing! Crunchy, toasty sourdough bread, Mature Cheddar, Red Leicester and Mozzarella, it’s a combination that’s hard to mess up and the #Brickwood doesn’t mess it up! Our coffees (cappuccinos) were lovely and velvety. It was a nice to see a focus on South American coffee, it really seems to be the en vogue place to get coffee beans in London these days. Go for really good coffee and even better snacks and a light lunches. Will be back on my next trip, for sure!

What: CoffeeshopWhere: Clapham Common, LondonValue: 5ppFood Review: The flat white coffee is what to go for. A nice cup of coffee makes all the difference. Also available are the super cheesy cheese toasties and a popular favourite of banana bread warmed up with butter – heaven. I dont usually mention the service unless it is exceptional, as i had dropped my coffee (huge bag) it was immediatley replaced with no added cost – bonus. Settings Review: Set of busy Clapham High Street with numerous bars and restaurants, however, not many coffee shops. This australian coffeeshop is set in a chilled friendly environment. With wooden decor and displayed eateries. Positives: great service, good coffeeNegatives: small, usually a wait on seating on weekends3 Word Review: cute little cafe sobernstarving.com

Great to see a new cafe in the Clapham area, considering I work a stone’s throw away. Greetings are always warm and welcoming and despite staff sometimes forgetting to bring over a menu, the service is good. Fresh, daily prepared sandwiches, quiches, cakes and the like sit on the counter at the front of the shop – there is no ‘sneeze guard’ and the products are pretty exposed, which is a little off-putting.However, the coffee is good and there is ample seating downstairs should the ground floor be full, which it often is. The exposed brick and decor are pleasing, and there is a little courtyard area out the back which I’m sure would be quite delightful in the summer.Special mention for the toasted cheese and ham sandwich – quite simply, the best I’ve had in London. Chewy sourdough, proper thick cut ham and Emmental. It’s a great size and only 3.50. You might need a knife and fork to tackle it. I’ve yet managed to deviate away from it.. thecutlerychronicles.com
