A nice place with a buzzing atmosphere. The food is alright but not much to my liking personally. I had the lamb chops which were fine if not a little dry. The service and staff were great and the whole seating arrangements were all comfortable. Also a good selection of wine, the E.Mendoza was the tables favourite.
Friendly local restaurant situated on the busy corner of clapham common. Staff are efficient and courteous. There were enough people on a tuesday night for there to be a nice atmosphere. We ordered some dishes to share. First came the breaded aubergine that came with a nice chutney. I don’t know how they did it but the aubergine was really light and fluffy, not oily at all. We also had a spinach and chickpea dish which was alright but didn’t have any distinct flavours. Next came the pulpo which was pieces of octopus on olive oil mash. This sounded like it was delicious on the menu but was a bit of a let down. The mash had a nice texture but was a bit bland. We also got a chickpea stew with morcilla. This was a bigger bowl than I anticipated and very filling, almost like a chunky soup. Needed a bit more salt but nice and hearty. The tapas here is not the best tapas in London but you can have a nice meal here which is reasonably priced.

A combination of the warm colours and apparent animated discussions by its patrons achieves this inviting atmosphere. The food is reasonably priced and it is good tapas for that price. I haven’t tried their paella yet but it looks like they have the cheapest paella prices on the menu. Usually paella takes the longest time to make and is one of the most expensive dishes in any Spanish restaurant. Even in Spain! Their Champinones al ajillo (stir-fried mushrooms in garlic and parsley sauce) is one of their best tapas. Whatever the season the mushrooms always taste great. Pimientos del piquillo is a good non-vegetarian tapas to try. Order more than one portion because people become greedier once they’ve tasted it. Although, I enjoy Carmen every time, I’ve had better tapas in London. However, for a chilled out dinner with friends, Carmen wins hands down. Solid tapas. Good atmosphere, cozy, nice decor. Pitchers of Sangria go well with the food (medium for 10 pounds), and the meatballs, Stilton croquettes and garlic chili prawns are all excellent. Good value for money, each dish around 5-7 pounds, and two per person more than enough.
