With so many restaurants on my to-try list, it’s rare that I eat at the same place more than once… Abbeville Kitchen has made it to that list as it’s a great neighbourhood restaurant (south of the river- hurrah) and serves seasonal dishes on their changeable menu. I like the simplicity of the dishes- they put together interesting flavours that work well together and focus on good produce. On this occasion we opted for a couple of salads to start- duck hearts and pickled walnuts, anchovies and blood orange- both were knock outs! These are ingredients we love so we had a feeling we would enjoy them but they really exceeded our expectations- anyone who hasn’t tried duck hearts before… do it… they are deliciously rich and meaty. For the main we ordered the cassoulet to share- this was slightly disappointing… though the duck just fell away from the bone and the chunks of sausage were tasty, it was all a little too dry, leaving the beans a little gluggy. And where was the bread for dipping?! But the mains we had on our first visit were pretty good so I’ll forgive them this time.Overall this is a great option if you’re around Clapham Common; the dishes are fresh, flavourful and interesting, while also great value for money- definitely one of the standouts on this wonderful street of food options! connieconsumes.com
