This place is deceptively big inside with everything a proper boozer should have, table football, an it machine and a pool table. The crowd therefore is slightly laddy (as to be expected). It’s not the nicest pub in clapham but it does the job, good for a quick pint (and from what I’ve heard, the burgers are decent) but more a passing by place rather than a destination.
Located just across the road from Clapham Common station, Stane Street Syndicate is a pub serving American style food. The spacious building (an ex- ONeill’s) has a very relaxed atmosphere and this is strengthened by the stack of board games and ping pong table available to its customers.Wooden tables and TVs mounted on the walls left me with an overriding pub vibe but I could see the improvements that must have been made to its previous dcor with stripped back walls and papermache horse heads catching my eye.The restaurant serves food from the Ruby Jeans menu which is a selection of food served at various pubs across London. The food is full of American favourites but there are also some exciting twists such as Monster Munch or Mac & Cheese available on top of your burger . If that doesnt intrigue you then I dont know what will!We chose to order the Veggie Board from the Snack and Share choices. It included four hippy sliders, fried halloumi, tempura vegetables, nachos, chipotle jam, guacamole & sour cream dips. I enjoyed the food as I went to the restaurant knowing what I would be getting. It wasnt refined and it was a little greasy but I was eating American style food and it was exactly how it was supposed to be!For the main course, I ate the Mac n Cheese with Roasted Mushrooms which was served in a metal frying pan. It was flavoursome, very cheesy and both myself and my guest enjoyed it.My guest chose the Hippy Houmous Burger which he enjoyed however we had previously eaten them as part of the starter platter so if you want to try different things then watch out for that.Unfortunately there seemed to be a slight mishap with our dessert. We ordered The Threesome which included cookies & ice cream, salted caramel & chocolate cheesecake and chocolate brownie. The waiter, who has been friendly and attentive, took our order but then let us know that one element of the dessert was unavailable. We said we would have the rest but then 45 minutes later our dessert and the waiter were nowhere to be seen so we decided to leave. For me, this left our sour note on our experience although Im sure it was an accident.Could I Afford Seconds? The prices at Stane Street Syndicate are quite reasonable. Burgers average at around 10 and desserts are 5. On Tuesdays, they offer 2-4-1 burgers which is a pretty good bargain considering they come with fries.Overall?Overall, my experience in Stane Street Syndicate was mixed. Dining for two and visiting just for the food probably wasnt the right idea. I would recommend this for after-work groups who want to wind down with a few drinks and eat some American food to soak it all up.When walking to Stane Street, I spotted a Byron and Honest Burger so they are in stiff competition with restaurants offering similar meals! However as this is more of a pub/restaurant, it does hold a different vibe from its competitors.Ultimately, the atmosphere left something to be desired and this was probably due to the lack of people. This is quite an important aspect of a meal out and you only really notice it when it is missing. Although Im sure on a Friday night, with the weekend on the horizon, a lively atmosphere would emerge. herfavfood.com
