Visited The Stonhouse for dinner with friends over the weekend. The venue is tucked way from the main drag on Clapham High Street and was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night. The pub is traditional and retains its Victorian heritage features such as its fireplace, not to mention a lovely beer… outandaboutuae.net
The burger is massive and awesome!I went there for dinner with my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday. We got a beer each, and decided to share the cold meats platter to start with. While I could not tell what each thing was they were very yummy. We then decided to get a stater and a main each and skip dessert. I got the squid to start with which was very tasty and the burger for my main. It was also delicious but huge! The patty was twice the size of what you normally get and it would have been impossible to eat without knife and fork. I have to admit it was very hard trying to finish it but it was so good I really did not want to stop eating it either. My boyfriend’s fish pie was also quite nice but I think my burger was better. While I would have liked to stay there later and drink it got empty relatively early so we had to go.Definitely a good place to visit and it’s on the tastecard too so you can get 50% off the food (which is probably why we ended up ordering quite a bit). The staff is quite casual and friendly as well which is a bonus. I count it as a very good find indeed. darcrose22albionadventures.blogspot.com
Honestly, I was not expecting much. When looking at the food menu, the prices were extremely cheap for the food they were offering. Wow was I blown away! The Stonhouse seasons and pairs their main protein with the perfect sides. Seabass with roast potatoes and samphire?? It sounds weird but it tastes amazing. This place is right around the corner from my house and has become my local go to restaurant.
OK food, terrible service. A group of us (about 12) ate at the Stonehouse in the run up to Christmas. It’s basically a gastropub with a focus on dinning.Warm bar snacks on the bar is a nice touch, and the ales are ok (Doom bar always welcome).Starters were a little slow in materialising but were nice, particularly my smoked haddock. The problems arose with the main courses – we are part of a group that meets once a month and tries a different steak restaurant. so we all steak unsprisingly – they arrived intermittently, with myself and a friend sharing the Chateaubriand, which arrived last. As my friend’s steaks moved from hot to warm we asked them to start while we waited for the sides and some plates to server the Chateaubriand. We had to ask 3 times for some plates and twice for the sides. The plates arrives, the sides didn’t. We gave up asking and ate the main courses without our side orders and cancelled them after a few of the guys had finished their steak before they had arrived. We refrained from ordering desserts as it might have rolled into the new year. We left a tip as it was Christmas, it wasn’t deserved. Decent food (when it appears), really really bad service – some of the worst.
Service is a bit haphazard but good food – great steak – they serve aspells cider so I’m probably being a bit easier on them than I should be
Stonhouse. Stonhouse is a good place to go for a drink in the garden.Wouldn t recomend the food though,I had the worst burger ever while my wife’s fish pie was just a bowl of mashed potatoes. The cheeses on the board are laughable.
