As someone born and bred in a seaside town, I have pretty high standards when it comes to the British classic fish and chips. Thankfully, despite being far from shores, Fish Central offers an authentic and incredibly fulfilling dining experience.I opted for the classics – deep fried cod, chips and a portion of mushy peas.Although I wasn’t overly impressed with the mushy peas but otherwise, the rest of the food was absolutely delicious. Fresh, flaky cod in wonderfully crisp batter that falls apart perfectly in your mouth – served with a creamy tartare sauce. The chips are fantastic – proper seaside style without a hint of greasiness and cooked absolutely perfectly. The large portion sizes give great value for money and they have an excellent range of options to choose from – including a selection of grill options if you’re in a group with a non-fish fan. They also have a takeaway outlet if you want your fish supper to go. With lovely, friendly service and incredibly popular with the local community, Fish Central is definitely the ‘plaice’ to head to for a real, authentic fish supper. mini-adventures.com

Having been here before and really enjoyed the food I was looking forward to my meal. After 45 minutes after placing my order the waiter came back to ask what my starter was!! In this time several people who had come in after my self had had there starters and main meals. As you can imagine by now I am starting to become more than a little disgruntled. Eventually the sardines arrived. Nothing wrong with them. After 1 hour 10 mins from ordering my meal the main arrived!Kind of gone off the whole thing by now. It was their monkfish special with mussels and supposed oysters! What a disappointment !!It wouldn’t surprise me if it had been kept on hold while they cooked my starter. Tasteless , dry, and sorry cockles cannot be classed as oysters!I will not be returning here nor would I EVER recommend it to anyone!!I have never done a review before but felt that I had to on this occasion. Rant over

Arrived after 10:30, but rather than been turned away, we were welcome in by George who I think is the owner and chef. Goats cheese starter was superb. My girlfriend had cod and chips with the choice to have it fried, grilled or baked (I tried a little, if Heineken cooked fish they’d probably try to do like this). I had the Rock Salmon, every forkful was like little bites of heaven. Service was excellent – staff very friendly, and the food was prompt. Great!!

Superb as a northern I’m surprised fish and chips can be this good in the old smoke!

No nonsense good food and great fun. We had perfectly cooked hake and chips and cod and chips with a decent bottle of wine all for a fair price. Noisy in a good lively way, and with a very diverse range of diners: a few had schlepped up from the Barbican, a few tourists, but mostly locals of all ages, shapes and sizes ! Great fun and a perfect start to the weekend.

Location may put you off but trust me when I say this restaurant has a touch of magic up it’s sleave! Great fish. Great atmosphere. Good price. If I was in London I’d be a regular.

The fish and chip restaurant reinvented. Enjoy cod and chips with a beer or wine. Starters and desserts on offer too. However staff can be funny about the minimum 10 charge and it’s not that cheap.
