Good fish, expensive price. Would recommend here for occasion, not your usual fish and chips dinner or takeaway place. Love the fish soup. Oysters were fresh too.
Fantastic value fish restaurant that has apparently evolved from a fish and chips shop. Would recommend booking here as it seems quite popular.Brightly lit space that has nonetheless an elegant and professional atmosphere despite plastic chairs and paper napkins. A really good address for simple fish cookery with excellent ingredients, generous portions and modest prices. We were a table of four and ordered two bottles of wine during our meal. There were several bottles available under the 15 mark. Happily we all knew each other well enough to taste every order on the table. For starters we shared two grilled sardines, six rock oysters and four boiled crab claws. A nice mignonette sauce came with the oysters. Crab shells had been cracked in the kitchen so the meat was easy to get at. The mayo it came with was not homemade, but had been tarted up with some mustard seed. Grilled sardines were excellent. We were brought four smokey fish cakes, on the house. For mains we had two orders of the grillled swordfish from the daily specials board which came with salsa verde, baked cherry tomatoes and rocket salad. There was also an order of deep fried hake with chips and one of grilled plaice. For sides we had onion rings, extra chips, boiled new potatoes, rocket and parmesan salad, and the daily boiled vegetables of broccoli and carrots. Owner of the plaice found his dinner a bit boring. Swordfish was well cooked but a little under seasoned. Deep fried hake was astonishingly good. Extremely crisp dry batter. Chips were good but not double fried. I liked the tasty onion rings. Nice balsamic vinaigrette on the salad. Some tartare sauce and plenty of lemon was provided with the mains. We were all pretty full at this point so shared a single dessert of panna cotta with berry coulis. Excellently wobbly and delicious, being not too sweet. Really good value given how copious our meal was, especially considering the luxury ingredients in our starters. Huge dinner for four including the two bottles of wine without service was 110.
