Excellent food with wild boar and black pudding both very well presented. Great atmosphere for a restaurant with a game theme. Can recommend this for anyone who enjoys game.
Great quality English fare, particularly right after you’ve seen a show at the Barbican, as they are open late! The menu is heavy on game but I opted for the lighter steamed mussels, which really hit the spot. Portions are quite large. pateachew.wordpress.com
We went to the Jugged Hare on friday evening, and it was quite busy. Many waiters and waitresses were hovering around our table, which can be quite annoying, especially after you have been asked the same question by four different waiters. The food was nicely presented and tasted good, but it did not make a great impression on me. My cod on a bed of veggies was tender, and tasted, well, tasted like cod…. Overall , a busy place with good food, but nothing to write home about. Quite expensive too, two starters and two glasses of wine cost us 75 GBP.
Delicious food, if a little smokey for me! Perfect venue for before or after an exhibition at the Barbican! Especially food for the English classics and interesting bar snacks! We had the pork with mashed potato, which came with black and white pudding!
Took three friends to celebrate British beef week. Food was excellent – silverside beef and the heart bomb were absolutely superb. Service was a bit poor. Girl on desk was lighting table candles and didn’t look up even when I said hello. Drink service was slow and inadequate and onthe whole the staff were young and inexperienced. Music coming from the kitchen was loud and annoying rock. The waiter who appeared to show the most interest, there was noone dedicated to our table, was a young friendly Spanish chap, who, upon discovering one of our party spoke his language, directed almost all his questions and interest to this diner. I was the host on this occasion and it had been my intention to pick up rhe tab, but because I was effectively sidelined I ended up offering a 50/50 split I must say that I once came here for lunch and it was a much more leisurely, sedate affair. Maybe the attention to detail slackens off when the pub fills up and the noise levels increase?I would say 300 for four including two carafes of simple wine and a 12.5% service charge was about 100 overpriced. The food is excellent, but I would go for a pub lunch – eat in the bar and avoid extras.
Surprisingly terrible. Saw this pub/restaurant on tv programme and looked quite good so went there to give it a go. Just got back from the restaurant, I m so disappointed with the food and the service. Firstly, the lady at the desk wasn’t so welcoming. Secondly, we ordered still water and diet coke, came with sparkling water and coke. That’s fine. The bread was good. We tried the roast beef and roast mutton. Honestly, I haven’t tried anything this bad before, the meat doesn’t taste like beef, I don’t even know what kind of meat is that to be fair but I have been told is beef. Meat were very chewy and we couldn’t even cut the meat probably with the knife. Maybe was the cut of the meat but the meat was tasteless and vegetables were undercooked. I m certainly not coming back with the price that they charged for. Finally, we have been told they would like the table back by 2pm, which was fine with us. We got 1 hour and 45 mins but we didn’t even asked for the bill and the bill turned up on the table at 1:30. I didn’t know I went to China town for lunch. Just wanted to share my experience.
Good night out. Very accomodating staff (for a party of 20 just turning up), simple well executed food, tasted great, not over the top prices and good friendly speedy service. Not 5 star dining, so don’t expect that, but good honest food, I would definately go back.
