Loved the Sunday roast chicken. Absolutely beautiful cook on the chicken, with juices intact and a crispy skin. The sauce was delicious and the accompanying vegetables were well seasoned. The staff is support polite. Couldn’t have asked for anything better. We also had the Mac n cheese balls for starters. Were quite good.
I went on a Monday for half-price on all food. Absolutely unreal bargain. Stunning night out, had a three course meal. They have a blackboard menu for limited items, and a regular menu filled with great gastropub dining. I can recommend the seafood starter with eel, the slow roast beef, and the chocolate pecan pie. Would not recommend the 35 day steak as it is a bit thin and not as tasty as to be expected, but the bernaise accompaniment was exceptional. The staff service is timely, attentive and polite. The presentation and plating are wonderful. Only drawback was the relatively small selection of beers on tap. I have already recommended this spot to friends, and will certainly return.
My partner and i went for dinner at 21.15 and were seated immediately. We were bought complimentary sourdough bread and olive oil with balsamic while we waited for our orders. My lamb shoulder off the main menu was very rich and soft, dropping off the bone with a lovely glossy gravy. My partner’s red mullet and risotto from the specials board was especially nice. The risotto with sorrel and lemon, salsa verde and wild garlic was delicious and has inspired him to try and replicate it.The portions were generous. Our deserts, the posset and sticky toffee pudding, were equally delicious, although I found the ginger biscuits with my posset too thick and something with the consistency of a brandy snap would have suited me better. We were very satisfied and will return.
It’s a pleasant looking space, and I have been curious about The Well for a while, as a friend used to live down the street. Tonight we were opportunistic as they were doing 50% off food due to the Tube strike so we finally gave it a try.We arrived at 21:15, and were disappointed that much of the menu had already sold out. A nice basket of warm sour dough with olive oil and balsamic was brought to the table as we sat down.My companion’s food was much better than mine. He had the kid sausages with onion gravy and polenta. Hearty portion, flavorful sausages and a wonderful dark rich shiny onion gravy.I ordered off the specials menu. It was an interesting read of river trout, roast pork belly, pea puree and crunchy cauliflower. The dish attempted to veer towards fine dining: very small portions on a very large plate. Every thing on the plate was executed well, and the textures were nice, but the flavors didn’t work particularly nicely together. A small portion of pork had very crisp crackling. A little bit of trout had crispy skin and was tender. A smear of pea puree was more for decoration than flavor and there were three very small florets of crunchy deep fried cauliflower. Some tasty micro herbs garnished the plate. A 9/10 for cooking, but 3/10 for design of the dish. Upon seeing my main, I ordered a side of chips which arrived quickly, looked good, but were unpleasantly undercooked. So make that a 7/10 for the cooking of my meal.Friendly service, and lovely atmosphere, but stick to the pub grub here. Hopefully the undercooked chips was a one off error, but maybe avoid the fries.
We were invited to the well to do a review. I can safely say this is one of my favourite Gastro-pubs in London. The food is amazing and the menu is full of unusual dishes from Gull Eggs starters to Crab linguini. I ate so much seafood so would you 100% recommend you don’t eat a pint of shrimps by yourself followed by the crab linguini. It is just too much. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. A very cosy pub feel upstairs and a cool bar feel downstairs. studdedkissesblog.co.uk
By far my favourite gastropub in London. The shin burger is one of the best burgers of London, the place is authentic, relaxed and at the same time great. Never been disappointed at The Well.
Went on a Friday lunchtime and sat outside. Unfortunately, the service was pretty poor – there were three of us and we all had the rib and shin burgers and we ordered together. Asked for one medium, one well, and one without mayo and cheese. We received a rare and one without cheese but with mayo, whilst the well done burger came out 10 minutes later. A burger also had some of the plastic wrap in it which wasn’t pleasant. Everyone has bad days, so will probably try again as the food itself was very tasty.
