About
In 1997, the four brothers opened the Brunel Raj, authentic Indian cuisine. The name of the restaurant compliments its location in Clifton Village. Brunel came from the famous engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel who was best known for the creation of the Great Western Railway, the famous SS Great Britain and the world famous Clifton Suspension Bridge. The second name Raj, comes from the Sanskrit work rajan, which means ruler or king. The name Brunel Raj thus translates to King Brunel, paying tribute to Bristols most well known merchant, Isambard Kingdom Brunel.Since opening its doors over 10 years ago, Brunel Raj has received great publicity and praise from local press, along with a string of catering awards; including being listed in the Top UK Restaurants by Hardens in 2001 and 2003.The main restaurant seats 48 and is available for small parties subject to booking and availability. We also cater for business and private parties as well as conferences and weddings.
