A terribly cold and terrible cheese sandwich was had here for a quick bite. Gruff service, stale bread, over priced – that was my experience. One off or not, I wouldn’t know as I never went back.
The Crown Cafe-Bar strikes me as a reliable little cafe, and it offers just the sort of thing you’d expect it to: sandwiches, paninis, pasta dishes – lunchtime food. I popped in there in need of a sit down and something warming, so ordered a jacket potato with cheese and beans after queuing for a minute or two. After another short wait I was brought my steaming hot meal. I was really pleased with the amount of the toppings, as a lot of places skimp on these. I’d asked for butter, and it’d all melted in together. Lovely. The salad on the side was a bit sad looking, but I hadn’t asked for it, so I wasn’t fussed. The potato itself was fine, but would have been better a bit lighter and fluffier. It did the job; filled my belly, and at under a fiver didn’t cost me much. The bar had some of the dishes nicely presented, and the service was good – nothing special, but enough to ensure that everyone was content.
